2016-04-18Cycles microdisplacement: add max subdivision settingMai Lavelle
This is to prevent situations such as when the camera gets very close to a mesh and causes it to be tessellated into an excessive amount of micropolygons. In REYES this is known as the eye-splits problem. Reviewed By: brecht Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D1922

This makes it easier to control overall dicing rate without having to tweak every object. The preview rate makes viewport editing more interactive. 2016-02-12Cycles: Make Blender importer more forward compatibleSergey Sharybin
Basically the idea is to make code robust against extending enum options in the future by falling back to a known safe default setting when RNA is set to something unknown. While this approach solves the issues similar to T47377, but it wouldn't really help when/if any of the RNA values gets ever deprecated and removed. There'll be no simple solution to that apart from defining explicit mapping from RNA value to Cycles one. Another part which isn't so great actually is that we now have to have some enum guards and give some explicit values to the enum items, but we can live with that perhaps. 2016-01-30Cycles: Pass Blender's C++ RNA structures by referenceSergey Sharybin
This way we avoid passing structures which could be up to few hundred bytes by value to the utility functions. Ideally we'll also have to add `const` qualifier in majority of the calls, but C++ RNA does not allow us to do that because it does not know if some function modifies contents or not.

2016-01-20Fix (partial) T47198: Cycles have broken UVs in some degenerated quads casesSergey Sharybin
The issue was discontinuity in logic when importing vertices from blender and then importing data layers regardless of how we split the face. Quite interesting we didn't notice this issue before. Thanks Bastien for the investigation, based on D1742 but redid it to make patch a bit more clear to follow.

2015-09-04Fix T45019: Cycles wrong render of motion blur meshSergey Sharybin
The issue was caused by wrong detection whether number of verticies changed or not. Basically, it wasn't working correct in cases when number of verticies is increasing compared to the current frame.
2015-07-21Cycles: Expose image image extension mapping to the image managerSergey Sharybin
Currently only two mappings are supported by API, which is Repeat (old behavior) and new Clip behavior. Internally this extension is being converted to periodic flag which was already supported but wasn't exposed. There's no support for OpenCL yet because of the way how we pack images into a single texture. Those settings are not exposed to UI or anywhere else and there should be no functional changes so far.

2015-03-27Cycles: Code cleanup, spaces around keywordsSergey Sharybin
This inconsistency drove me totally crazy, it's really confusing when it's inconsistent especially when you work on both Cycles and Blender sides. Shouldn;t cause merge PITA, it's whitespace changes only, Git should be able to merge it nicely.
2015-03-13Cycles: Free caches used by the synchronized objectsSergey Sharybin
Issue this commit is addressed to is that particle system and particle modifier will contain caches once derived mesh was requested and this cached data will never be freed. This could easily lead to unwanted memory peaks during synchronization stage of rendering. The idea is to have RNA function in object which would free caches which can't be freed otherwise. This function is not intended to deal with derived final since it might be used by other objects (for example by object with boolean modifier). This cache freeing is only happening in the background rendering and locked interface rendering. From quick tests with victor file this change reduces peak memory usage by command line rendering by around 6% (1780MB vs. 1883MB). For rendering from the interface it's about 12% (1763MB vs. 1998MB). Reviewers: campbellbarton, lukastoenne Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D1121

2015-02-19Cycles: Make sphere and tube image mapping friendly with OpenCLSergey Sharybin

2015-02-10Cycles: optimize one normalization out from the previous commitSergey Sharybin
2015-02-10Cycles: implement pointiness geometry attributeSergey Sharybin
This attribute means how "pointy" the geometry surface is, which allows to do effects like dirt maps and wear-off effects on render geometry. This means the attribute is calculated for the final mesh which means no baking (which implies UV unwrap) is needed. Apart from this the behavior is quite close to how vertex dirty colors works. The new attribute is available as an output socket of Geometry node. There's no penalty for the render time, only some delay on scene preparation (the delay is linear of the mesh complexity). 2015-02-05Add Custom Loop Normals.Bastien Montagne
This is the core code for it, tools (datatransfer and modifier) will come in next commits). RNA api is already there, though. See the code for details, but basically, we define, for each 'smooth fan' (which is a set of adjacent loops around a same vertex that are smooth, i.e. have a single same normal), a 'loop normal space' (or lnor space), using auto-computed normal and relevant edges, and store custom normal as two angular factors inside that space. This allows to have custom normals 'following' deformations of the geometry, and to only save two shorts per loop in new clnor CDLayer. Normal manipulation (editing, mixing, interpolating, etc.) shall always happen with plain 3D vectors normals, and be converted back into storage format at the end. Clnor computation has also been threaded (at least for Mesh case, not for BMesh), since the process can be rather heavy with high poly meshes. Also, bumping subversion, and fix mess in 2.70 versioning code.

2014-07-31Fix T41258: Crash when entering edit mode while viewport render is enabledSergey Sharybin
The issue was caused by the render engine loading edit mesh, which re-allocates mesh array which might be referenced by other object's derived meshed. Worst thing about this is that updating render engine happens from the end of scene update function, after all the objects are updated and so. This is needed so render engine gets the update objects which is correct. The only proper way to solve the issue is to make it so viewport engine does not leave objects in inconsistent state, meaning nobody will reference to freed data. In order to reach this we do edit mesh loading before running objects update so all the objects which uses that mesh will have proper references in the derived mesh. This also solves old creepyness which happened before when having single object in edit mode. tweaking it will calculate derived mesh as a part of scene update, then this derived mesh will be freed by edit mesh loading and viewport will be creating derived mesh again. Now render engine is expected to do nothing with meshes which are in edit mode, but they still need to load edit data for non0meshes. It's not really easy to do from the BKE level because needed functions are implemented in the editor. Thanks Campbell for the review! Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D697

2014-06-14Cycles: Add support for uchar4 attributes.Thomas Dinges
* Added support for uchar4 attributes to Cycles' attribute system. * This is used for Vertex Colors now, which saves some memory (4 unsigned characters, instead of 4 floats). * GPU Texture Limit on sm_20 and sm_21 decreased from 95 to 94, because we need a new texture for the uchar4 attributes. This is no problem for sm_30 or newer. Part of my GSoC 2014.

2014-03-29Cycles: add "density", "flame" and "color" attributes for smoke domains.Brecht Van Lommel
These can currently be accessed by adding an Attribute node and specifying one of those three names. A Smoke/Fire node should be added at some point to make this more convenient. These values might change still before the release, in particular for flame the meaning seems unclear, it's just values in the 0..1 range. This is useful for color ramps, but it might be good if this was also available as temperature in kelvin so it can be plugged into the blackbody node. But I couldn't figure out from the smoke code if or how this corresponds to a physical unit. Here's a (quite poor) example file for a fire + smoke setup: http://www.pasteall.org/blend/27990
