Operator goodies! --- Macro operators Operators now can consist of multiple operators. Such a macro operator is identical and behaves identical to other opererators. Macros can also be constructed of macros even! Currently only hardcoded macros are implemented, this to solve combined operators such as 'add duplicate' or 'extrude' (both want a transform appended). Usage is simple: - WM_operatortype_append_macro() : add new operatortype, name, flags - WM_operatortype_macro_define() : add existing operator to macro (Note: macro_define will also allow properties to be set, doesnt work right now) On converting the macro wmOperatorType to a real operator, it makes a list of all operators, and the standard macro callbacks (exec, invoke, modal, poll) just will use all. Important note; switching to a modal operator only works as last in the chain now! Macros implemented for duplicate, extrude and rip. Tool menu works fine for it, also the redo hotkey F4 works properly. --- Operator redo fix The operators use the undo system to switch back, but this could give errors if other actions added undo pushes (buttons, outliner). Now the redo for operator searches back for the correct undo level. This fixes issues with many redos. Note for brecht: removed the ED_undo_push for buttons... it was called on *every* button now, which is probably too much? For example, using the 'toolbar' redo also caused this...

First step towards keymap editor! Before getting too excited: - doesn't save yet - no rna properties can be defined - no insert/remove keymap options yet - no option yet to set 'key press/release' But what does work; - Keymap list is in outliner, new category (Keymaps are listed in order as being created now) - enable/disable a keymap entry: click on dot icon - it displays python api names for ops - browse new operator for keymap (menu button) - set keymap to use other keys, mouse or tweak events - four modifier key options I first intent to test it all well, there are still quite some modal map conflicts (like border select) and there's problems assigning items to tweaks Another issue is that a visual editor for keymaps might be quite hard to use... the amount of data and options is just not so fun for a buttons menu. There are ways to improve this though. Maybe do this via a script?

Commit of basic architecture. Sorry, nothing fun to play with yet. Added two events: MOUSEDRAG and MOUSEDROP. MOUSEDRAG is sent when left-mouse clicking and then moving the cursor and every time the cursor is moved until the user releases the mouse button, thus generating a MOUSEDROP. Also added two dummy drag operators in view3d and outliner (place holders for now). Brecht and Ton: feel free to check/edit especially the event system code. I'm not sure that's the right way to do it. Also, I'm getting some mem leaks which I suspect are caused by my code.

Modal keymaps. I've tried to make it as simple as possible, yet still using sufficient facilities to enable self-documenting UIs, saving/reading in files, and proper Python support. The simplicity is: the 'modal keymap' just checks an event, uses event matching similarly to other keymap matching, and if there's a match it changes the event type, and sets the event value to what the modal keymap has defined. The event values are being defined using EnumPropertyItem structs, so the UI will be able to show all options in self-documenting way. This system also allows to still handle hardcoded own events. Tech doc: 1) define keymap - Create map with unique name, WM_modalkeymap_add() - Give map property definitions (EnumPropertyItem *) This only for UI, so user can get information on available options 2) items - WM_modalkeymap_add_item(): give it an enum value for events 3) activate - In keymap definition code, assign the modal keymap to operatortype WM_modalkeymap_assign() 4) event manager - The event handler will check for modal keymap, if so: - If the modal map has a match: - Sets event->type to EVT_MODAL_MAP - Sets event->val to the enum value 5) modal handler - If event type is EVT_MODAL_MAP: - Check event->val, handle it - Other events can just be handled still Two examples added in the code: editors/transform/transform.c: transform_modal_keymap() editors/screen/screen_ops.c: keymap_modal_set() Also: to support 'key release' the define KM_RELEASE now is officially used in event manager, this is not '0', so don't check key events with the old convention if(event->val) but use if(event->val==KM_PRESS)

Fixes a crash reported by ZanQdo. - Store the report message length in the report so calculating the total height including word wrap is not so slow.

Several usablity tweaks: - Search menu allows ScrollWheel to view items - Tooltip on button on bottom of window showed wrong - Tooltips were popping up while draggin (MMB) or scrolling (wheel). Now they stay away. - Stolen from Gimp (blame venomgfx for hint!): ScrollWheel allows to go over menu items and use number buttons, only on mouse-over. Note for devs: the WM_event_add_mousemove() call (to add a fake event to bring UI back alive after view changes) now works much more reliably. It ensures the mouse move is only handled after all notifiers/redraws were done.

Several things in one commit; could not split this up easily, one job invoked another, and so on. :) - Added pulldowns for save/load .blend file in top bar. - To enable "Save" without further popups (save over) I've added a signaling function in window header to indicate a succesful save. - On any undo push it now signals 'file changed'. This goes by notifiers nicely, but now registers only the undopushes, which is quite unreliable. "Changed" state shows in header as "Blender*" and for OSX with the standard close button black dot. - Made screencast show a button in top bar indicating such, and allowing quit. No hotkey for quit yet... but ESC will keep casting now. - Fixed new BLF_init(), which should be in WM_init() and not on any .B.blend read. - Fixed CTRL+F3 "Save Screenshot", which was still using old fileselect code.

Sanitized the 'tweak' event. Original idea was to have WM event system generating it automatically. However, I first tested it via a handler and operator, to check what kind of configurations would be useful. It appeared to not work nice, also because that inserting a tweak operator in a keymap is confusing. Now 'tweaks' are generated automatically, and can be catched by keymaps as any event. The current definition of tweak is: - if Left/Middle/Rightmouse pressed if event wasn't handled by window queue (modal handlers) start checking mousepositions - while mousepositions are checked - escape on any event other than mouse - on mouse events: - add tweak event if mousemove > 10 pixels - stop checking for tweak if mousebutton released - Tweak events have a define indicating mousebutton used EVT_TWEAK_L, EVT_TWEAK_M, EVT_TWEAK_R - In keymap definitions you can use _S or _A to map to action or select mouse userdef. - Event value in keymap should be KM_ANY for all tweaks, or use one of the eight directions: EVT_GESTURE_E, _SE, _S, _SW, _W, _NW, _N, _NE - And of course you can add modifier checks in keymaps for it. - Because tweaks are a result of mouse events, the handlers get both to evaluate. That means that RMB-select + tweak will work correctly. In case you don't want both to be handled, for example the CTRL+LMB 'extrude' and CTRL+LMB-tweak 'lasso select', you will need to set the first acting on a EVT_RELEASE, this event only gets passed on when tweak fails. The current system allows all options, configurable, we had in 2.48, and many more! A diagram of what's possible is on the todo. :) Also in this commit: lasso select editmesh failed with 'zbuffer occluded select'. Also circle-select failed.

- Edit mesh: Add ctrl+click add vertex or extrude. I've made it not move the 3d cursor in that case. Also found out tweak events conflicted with existing keymap definitions; on tweak failure (= no mousemove) it now passes on the mouse event as 'mouse down' for the remaining keymaps to check. These then actually respond to mouse-up instead of down... The location in the keymaps where tweaks get generated remains important. Examples: 1 - 'select' mouse-handler, operator return pass-through 2 - tweak handler checks, and makes tweak event 3 - grabber responds to tweak event 1 - ctrl+mouse tweak handler checks, makes tweak event, or passes event on 2 - if tweak event, it runs lasso 3 - else when passed on, ctrl+click extrude happens In the first case, select works on mouse-down, immediate. In the second case, extrude happens on mouse-release, even though the keymap defined mouse-press. This will make designing nice balanced keymaps still not simple; especially because you can't tell operators to pass on the key... although we can add the convention that select-mouse operators always pass on to enable tweaks. Still a good reason to wait with custom keymaps when this is fully settled!

* Triple Buffer is now more complete: - Proper handling of window resize, duplicate, etc. - It now uses 3x3 textures (or less) if the power of two sizes do not match well. That still has a worst case wast of 23.4%, but better than 300%. - It can also use the ARB/NV/EXT_texture_rectangle extension now, which may be supported on hardware that does not support ARB_texture_non_power_of_two. - Gesture, menu and brushe redraws now require no redraws at all from the area regions. So even on a high poly scene just moving the paint cursor or opening a menu should be fast. * Testing can be done by setting the "Window Draw Method" in the User Preferences in the outliner. "Overlap" is still default, since "Triple Buffer" has not been tested on computers other than mine, would like to avoid crashing Blender on startup in case there is a common bug, but it's ready for testing now. - For reference "Full" draws the full window each time. - "Triple Buffer" should work for both swap copy and swap exchange systems, the latter still need the -E command line option for "Overlap". - Resizing and going fullscreen still gives flicker here but no more than "Full" drawing. * Partial Redraw was added. ED_region_tag_redraw_partial takes a rect in window coordinates to define a subarea of the region. On region draw it will then set glScissor to a smaller area, and ar->drawrct will always be set to either the partial or full window rect. The latter can then be used for clipping in the 3D view or clipping interface drawing. Neither is implemented yet.

Added WM Jobs manager - WM can manage threaded jobs for you; just provide a couple of components to get it work: - customdata, free callback for it - timer step, notifier code - start callback, update callback - Once started, each job runs an own timer, and will for every time step check necessary updates, or close the job when ready. - No drawing happens in jobs, that's for notifiers! - Every job stores an owner pointer, and based on this owner it will prevent multiple jobs to enter the stack. Instead it will re-use a running job, signal it to stop and allow caller to re-initialize it even. - Check new wm_jobs.c for more explanation. Jobs API is still under construction. Fun: BLI_addtail(&wm->jobs, steve); :) Put Node shader previews back using wmJobs - Preview calculating is now fully threaded (1 thread still) - Thanks to new event system + notifiers, you can see previews update even while dragging sliders! - Currently it only starts when you change a node setting. Warning: the thread render shares Node data, so don't delete nodes while it renders! This topic is on the todo to make safe. Also: - bug in region initialize (do_versions) showed channel list in node editor wrong. - flagged the channel list 'hidden' now, it was really in the way! This is for later to work on anyway. - recoded Render API callbacks so it gets handlers passed on, no globals to use anymore, remember? - previewrender code gets now so much nicer! Will remove a lot of stuff from code soon.

* Drawing code from wm_event_system.c split into separate wm_draw.c file. Now there's 3 different draw methods implemented, not sure what survives or will be added but is useful for debugging. * Draw All: redraws everything each time, for reference. * Draw Overlap All: what the code did before this commit, only draw regions marked for redraw, and anything that overlaps them. * Triple Buffer: copies/retores all area regions into a texture, and blits that before drawing. Menus, brushes, gestures, etc are redrawn always on top of that. Currently "Draw Overlap All" is set hardcoded to be used still. Triple Buffer code is not complete, it doesn't handle window resize yet. Cards that don't support non power of two textures can need quite large textures as well, this could be split into multiple smaller ones.

Vertex Paint back! Added WM level "paint cursor" system, which manages a custom painting cursor for tools or modes. - Activate it with WM_paint_cursor_activate(). That function wants two callbacks, a poll(C) to check whether there's a cursor in given context and ARegion, and a draw(C, x, y) which gets called when appropriate. - While paintcursor is active, the WM handles necessary redrawing events for all regions, also to nicely clear the cursor on region exit. - WM_paint_cursor_activate returns a handle, which you have to use to end the paint cursor. This handle also means you can register as many custom cursors as you want. At the moment, vertex paint mode registers only a mousemove handler, all other events are still normally handled. This is stuff for the future todo.

This means you can define an operator in python that is called from C or Python - like any other operator. Python functions for invoke and exec can be registered with an operator name. keywords are read from the python exec() function, then used to create operator properties. Better implementation of own window timers, not using ghost. That makes blender's WM nice in control, and gives callers of timers the opportunitie to evaluate time passed since previous step. This system also only generates one timer event per main loop (events - handlers - notifiers - draw) Small fix: allow keymap modifier to give KM_ANY to ignore modifier keys, this to have TIMER keymap work.

Animated screen! (unfinished, now only draws, no animation code yet). Fun though to see it all work. :) NOTE: Mac ghost has timer bug, the GHOST_ProcessEvents() doesnt wake up for timers. NOTE2: Added while loop in wm_window_process_events() to force Ghost giving all events to Blender. Timers otherwise don't accumulate... might be needed to fix in ghost too. I tend to think to code own timer, this ghost stuff is totally different per platform.

Current idea is that you have to indicate an entire keymap to be custom, to prevent too complicated merging problems of default and custom maps (like order, multiple keys for same operator, disabling options, etc).

* Changes in interface/ module This commit brings back the way how buttons/menus work under control of WM event system. The previous implementation extended usage of handlers and operators in an interesting but confusing way. Better to try it first according the design specs. :) Most obviously: - modal-handler operators are not stored anymore in regions/areas/windows. such modal handlers own their operator, and should remove it themselves. - removed code to move handlers from one queue to another. (needs review with brecht!) - WM fix: the API call to remove a modal handler got removed. This was a dangerous thing anyway, and you should leave that to the event system. Now, if a handler modal() call gets a cancel/finish return, it frees itself in event system. WM_event_remove_modal_handler was a confusing call anyway! Todo: - allow button-activate to refresh after using button - re-enable arrow keys for menus (do both after commit) - review return values of operator callbacks in interface_ops.c * Fixes in WM system - Freeing areas/regions/windows, also on quit, now correctly closes running modal handlers - On starting a modal handler, the handler now stores previous area and region context, so they send proper notifiers etc. * Other fixes - Area-split operator had bug, wrong minimal size checking. This solves error when trying to split a very narrow area. - removed DNA_USHORT_FIX from screen_types.h, gave warning - operators didn't get ID name copied when activated, needed for later re-use or saving.

* Moved View2D data from space-data to ARegion (aka regions). This has been done because drawing occurs in regions not areas anymore. The View2D struct is currently stored in the ARegion struct (not as pointer), given that most of the regions in use will be 2D anyway (only the 3d-view's "window" region is the exception). Added version patch code for outliner and timeline only for now. Headers are also likely to need this. * Added separate keymap for View2D operators. All regions that use View2D will need this added. This includes headers too. * Pan view operator (ED_View2D_OT_view_pan), currently works for Outliner and Timeline. Use MMB-drag as before. - It currently doesn't exposed any parameters for redo (via RNA-ID-Props), but only uses some customdata. Suggestions on what these parameters could be are welcomed. - I've yet to implement the necessary axis-locking features for this panning (which is required in Timeline for example to prevent vertical panning, which moves the markers out of view).

Tweak issue: both tweak styles are possible: - Hold mouse button, move, operator ends on mouse release - Hold mouse button, move, operator ends on mouse click Problem is that modally handled operators use fixed keymaps... like ESC, SPACE, ENTER, or press/release mousebutton for 'assign'. There's a lot to say for making this all consistant, or become part of 1 general keymap? Should also be possibe to define 'tweak' defaults for Tablet different than for mouse...

Since we'll reshuffle a lot in UI code, making new Screens totally incompatible, this patch saves the Screen chunk in Blender files with a new identifier (ID_SCRN), causing it to be not read in old Blender binaries. Pre-2.50 blender already has a facility to recover from this (it keeps old UI), including for .B.blends (it opens default simple screen) For the latter reason, it might be advisable to have the .B.blend for 2.50+ saved as another name? Then you can use both for while. (Note: commit is just 3 lines of code, other files are comments I added for documentation of other stuff)

* Added RNA for operators. This still uses ID properties internally, but through the RNA API now. The OP_get/set_* API that was used is replaced by the RNA API. Currently RNA properties for operators are defined at runtime since it means operator registration can be done in a single function. * Changed the existing operators to use this system, I haven't defined user interface names yet though. I also think there need to be some conventions on which properties to expose to make these operators usable in macros, for example if mouse coordinates should be stored or not. * When using ID properties through defined RNA properties, it now checks that the ID property actually matches the RNA property and removes/overwrites it otherwise. This is based on the current trunk version, so these files should not need merges. There's two things (clipboard and intptr_t) that are missing in 2.50 and commented out with XXX 2.48, these can be enabled again once trunk is merged into this branch. Further this is not all interface code, there are many parts commented out: * interface.c: nearly all button types, missing: links, chartab, keyevent. * interface_draw.c: almost all code, with some small exceptions. * interface_ops.c: this replaces ui_do_but and uiDoBlocks with two operators, making it non-blocking. * interface_regions: this is a part of interface.c, split off, contains code to create regions for tooltips, menus, pupmenu (that one is crashing currently), color chooser, basically regions with buttons which is fairly independent of core interface code. * interface_panel.c and interface_icons.c: not ported over, so no panels and icons yet. Panels should probably become (free floating) regions? * text.c: (formerly language.c) for drawing text and translation. this works but is using bad globals still and could be cleaned up. Header Files: * ED_datafiles.h now has declarations for datatoc_ files, so those extern declarations can be #included instead of repeated. * The user interface code is in UI_interface.h and other UI_* files. Core: * The API for creating blocks, buttons, etc is nearly the same still. Blocks are now created per region instead of per area. * The code was made non-blocking, which means that any changes and redraws should be possible while editing a button. That means though that we need some sort of persistence even though the blender model is to recreate buttons for each redraw. So when a new block is created, some matching happens to find out which buttons correspond to buttons in the previously created block, and for activated buttons some data is then copied over to the new button. * Added UI_init/UI_init_userdef/UI_exit functions that should initialize code in this module, instead of multiple function calls in the windowmanager. * Removed most static/globals from interface.c. * Removed UIafterfunc_ I don't think it's needed anymore, and not sure how it would integrate here? * Currently only full window redraws are used, this should become per region and maybe per button later. Operators: * Events are currently handled through two operators: button activate and menu handle. Operators may not be the best way to implement this, since there are currently some issues with events being missed, but they can become a special handler type instead, this should not be a big change. * The button activate operator runs as long as a button is active, and will handle all interaction with that button until the button is not activated anymore. This means clicking, text editing, number dragging, opening menu blocks, etc. * Since this operator has to be non-blocking, the ui_do_but code needed to made non-blocking. That means variables that were previously on the stack, now need to be stored away in a struct such that they can be accessed again when the operator receives more events. * Additionally the place in the ui_do_but code indicated the state, now that needs to be set explicit in order to handle the right events in the right state. So an activated button can be in one of these states: init, highlight, wait_flash, wait_release, wait_key_event, num_editing, text_editing, text_selecting, block_open, exit. * For each button type an ui_apply_but_* function has also been separated out from ui_do_but. This makes it possible to continuously apply the button as text is being typed for example, and there is an option in the code to enable this. Since the code non-blocking and can deal with the button being deleted even, it should be safe to do this. * When editing text, dragging numbers, etc, the actual data (but->poin) is not being edited, since that would mean data is being edited without correct updates happening, while some other part of blender may be accessing that data in the meantime. So data values, strings, vectors are written to a temporary location and only flush in the apply function. Regions: * Menus, color chooser, tooltips etc all create screen level regions. Such menu blocks give a handle to the button that creates it, which will contain the results of the menu block once a MESSAGE event is received from that menu block. * For this type of menu block the coordinates used to be in window space. They are still created that way and ui_positionblock still works with window coordinates, but after that the block and buttons are brought back to region coordinates since these are now contained in a region. * The flush/overdraw frontbuffer drawing code was removed, the windowmanager should have enough information with these screen level regions to have full control over what gets drawn when and to then do correct compositing. Testing: * The header in the time space currently has some buttons to test the UI code.

* Added functions to generate Timer events. There was some unfinished code to create one timer per window, this replaces that with a way to let operators or other handlers add/remove their own timers as needed. This is currently delivered as an event with the timer handle, perhaps this should be a notifier instead? Also includes some fixes in ghost for timer events that were not delivered in time, due to passing negative timeout. * Added a Message event, which is a generic event that can be added by any operator. This is used in the UI code to communicate the results of opened blocks. Again, this may be better as a notifier. * These two events should not be blocked as they are intended for a specific operator or handler, so there were exceptions added for this, which is one of the reasons they might work better as notifiers, but currently these things can't listen to notifier yet. * Added an option to events to indicate if the customdata should be freed or not. * Added a free() callback for area regions, and added a free function for area regions in blenkernel since it was already there for screens and areas. * Added ED_screen/area/region_exit functions to clean up things like operators and handlers when they are closed. * Added screen level regions, these will draw over areas boundaries, with the last created region on top. These are useful for tooltips, menus, etc, and are not saved to file. It's using the same ARegion struct as areas to avoid code duplication, but perhaps that should be renamed then. Note that redraws currently go correct, because only full window redraws are used, for partial redraws without any frontbuffer drawing, the window manager needs to get support for compositing subwindows. * Minor changes in the subwindow code to retrieve the matrix, and moved setlinestyle to glutil.c. * Reversed argument order in WM_event_add/remove_keymap_handler to be consistent with modal_handler. * Operators can now block events but not necessarily cancel/finish. * Modal operators are now stored in a list in the window/area/region they were created in. This means for example that when a transform operator is invoked from a region but registers a handler at the window level (since mouse motion across areas should work), it will still get removed when the region is closed while the operator is running.

WM_NOTE_GESTURE_CHANGE ..); } } WM_gesture_end(C, type); Another of the change is that now the gesture data is a link list in the window struct, so we can have multiples "gestures" (but of different type) at the same time. Also take care that the "gesture data" is reusable, that mean that only alloc it 1 time and use in all the place, that is why don't support multiple gesture of the same type, but of course that can be change.

This is a first implementation of the "gesture manager" system, the idea is put the WM in a automatic draw mode so we can implement different "Gesture types" to draw different class of data (lasso, bound box, etc). The gesture data is passed through the data field of the notifiers, i think that we can change this to something like: WM_gesture_init(C, data); /* put the data in the context. */ while() { /* send WM_NOTE_GESTURE_CHANGED to update screen */ } /* send event and free the data in the context. */ WM_gesture_end(C); Also i add a new operator and event to test the gesture manager. The new operator is the "border select" function, just press BKEY in the window and LMB or ESCKEY to exit. In the case of LMB you can see a print in the console about the BORDERSELECT event. All this still need a lot of work, comment are welcome.

This is a simple API around IDProperty to store properties in the Operator, it is really simple and this first commit just add support for IDP_INT data type. Take care that this "properties" are not save yet and you get some "Error totblock" more with this. I add some notes to the WM_api.h file, please check this, comment and ideas are welcome.
