2021-02-22perf_hooks: complete overhaul of the implementationJames M Snell
* Update the user timing implementation to conform to User Timing Level 3. * Reimplement user timing and timerify with pure JavaScript implementations * Simplify the C++ implementation for gc and http2 perf * Runtime deprecate additional perf entry properties in favor of the standard detail argument * Disable the `buffered` option on PerformanceObserver, all entries are queued and dispatched on setImmediate. Only entries with active observers are buffered. * This does remove the user timing and timerify trace events. Because the trace_events are still considered experimental, those can be removed without a deprecation cycle. They are removed to improve performance and reduce complexity. 2021-02-15perf_hooks: introduce createHistogramJames M Snell
Adds a new `perf_hooks.createHistogram()` API for creating histogram instances that allow user recording. Makes Histogram instances cloneable via MessagePort. This allows, for instance, an event loop delay monitor to be running on the main thread while the histogram data can be monitored actively from a worker thread. 2020-03-02perf,src: add HistogramBase and internal/histogram.jsJames M Snell
Separating this out from the QUIC PR to allow it to be separately reviewed. The QUIC implementation makes use of the hdr_histogram for dynamic performance monitoring. This introduces a BaseObject class that allows the internal histograms to be accessed on the JavaScript side and adds a generic Histogram class that will be used by both QUIC and perf_hooks (for the event loop delay monitoring). 2019-10-31src: change env.h includes for forward declarationsAlexandre Ferrando
Due to how the Environment class is used through the codebase, there are a lot of includes referencing either env.h or env-inl.h. This can cause that when any development touches those libraries, a lot of files have to be recompiled. This commit attempts to change those includes by forward declarations when possible to mitigate the issue. This patch moves the serialization of coverage profiles into C++. With this we no longer need to patch `process.reallyExit` and hook into the exit events, but instead hook into relevant places in C++ which are safe from user manipulation. This also makes the code easier to reuse for other types of profiles. PR-URL: https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/26874 Reviewed-By: Ben Coe <bencoe@gmail.com>

2017-09-15src: keep track of env properly in node_perf.ccAnna Henningsen
Currently, measuring GC timing using `node_perf` is somewhat broken, because Isolates and Node Environments do not necessarily match 1:1; each environment adds its own hook, so possibly the hook code runs multiple times, but since it can’t reliably compute its corresponding event loop based on the Isolate, each run targets the same Environment right now. This fixes that problem by using new overloads of the GC tracking APIs that can pass data to the callback through opaque pointers. 2017-08-24perf_hooks: implementation of the perf timing APIJames M Snell
An initial implementation of the Performance Timing API for Node.js. This is the same Performance Timing API implemented by modern browsers with a number of Node.js specific properties. The User Timing mark() and measure() APIs are implemented, garbage collection timing, and node startup milestone timing. ```js const { performance } = require('perf_hooks'); performance.mark('A'); setTimeout(() => { performance.mark('B'); performance.measure('A to B', 'A', 'B'); const entry = performance.getEntriesByName('A to B', 'measure')[0]; console.log(entry.duration); }, 10000); ``` The implementation is at the native layer and makes use of uv_hrtime(). This should enable *eventual* integration with things like Tracing and Inspection. The implementation is extensible and should allow us to add new performance entry types as we go (e.g. for measuring i/o perf, etc). Documentation and a test are provided.
