2022-09-16i2c: imx: If pm_runtime_get_sync() returned 1 device access is possibleUwe Kleine-König
pm_runtime_get_sync() returning 1 also means the device is powered. So resetting the chip registers in .remove() is possible and should be done. Reported-by: Dan Carpenter <dan.carpenter@oracle.com> Fixes: d98bdd3a5b50 ("i2c: imx: Make sure to unregister adapter on remove()") Signed-off-by: Uwe Kleine-König <u.kleine-koenig@pengutronix.de> Acked-by: Oleksij Rempel <o.rempel@pengutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa@kernel.org>
2022-08-21i2c: imx: Make sure to unregister adapter on remove()Uwe Kleine-König
If for whatever reasons pm_runtime_resume_and_get() fails and .remove() is exited early, the i2c adapter stays around and the irq still calls its handler, while the driver data and the register mapping go away. So if later the i2c adapter is accessed or the irq triggers this results in havoc accessing freed memory and unmapped registers. So unregister the software resources even if resume failed, and only skip the hardware access in that case. 2022-04-16i2c: imx: Implement errata ERR007805 or e7805 bus frequency limitMarek Vasut
The i.MX8MP Mask Set Errata for Mask 1P33A, Rev. 2.0 has description of errata ERR007805 as below. This errata is found on all MX8M{M,N,P,Q}, MX7{S,D}, MX6{UL{,L,Z},S{,LL,X},S,D,DL,Q,DP,QP} . MX7ULP, MX8Q, MX8X are not affected. MX53 and older status is unknown, as the errata first appears in MX6 errata sheets from 2016 and the latest errata sheet for MX53 is from 2015. Older SoC errata sheets predate the MX53 errata sheet. MX8ULP and MX9 status is unknown as the errata sheet is not available yet. " ERR007805 I2C: When the I2C clock speed is configured for 400 kHz, the SCL low period violates the I2C spec of 1.3 uS min Description: When the I2C module is programmed to operate at the maximum clock speed of 400 kHz (as defined by the I2C spec), the SCL clock low period violates the I2C spec of 1.3 uS min. The user must reduce the clock speed to obtain the SCL low time to meet the 1.3us I2C minimum required. This behavior means the SoC is not compliant to the I2C spec at 400kHz. Workaround: To meet the clock low period requirement in fast speed mode, SCL must be configured to 384KHz or less. " Implement the workaround by matching on the affected SoC specific compatible strings and by limiting the maximum bus frequency in case the SoC is affected. 2021-11-23i2c: imx: Add timer for handling the stop conditionCorey Minyard
Most IMX I2C interfaces don't generate an interrupt on a stop condition, so it won't generate a timely stop event on a slave mode transfer. Some users, like IPMB, need a timely stop event to work properly. So, add a timer and add the proper handling to generate a stop event in slave mode if the interface goes idle. 2020-12-02i2c: imx: Don't generate STOP condition if arbitration has been lostChristian Eggers
If arbitration is lost, the master automatically changes to slave mode. I2SR_IBB may or may not be reset by hardware. 2020-09-27i2c: imx: Fix external abort on interrupt in exit pathsKrzysztof Kozlowski
If interrupt comes late, during probe error path or device remove (could be triggered with CONFIG_DEBUG_SHIRQ), the interrupt handler i2c_imx_isr() will access registers with the clock being disabled. 2020-02-26i2c: imx: implement master_xfer_atomic callbackStefan Lengfeld
Rework the read and write code paths in the driver to support operation in atomic contexts. To achieve this, the driver must not rely on IRQs and not call schedule(), e.g. via a sleep routine, in these cases. With this patch the driver supports normal operation, DMA transfers and now the polling mode or also called sleep-free or IRQ-less operation. It makes the code not simpler or easier to read, but atomic I2C transfers are needed on some hardware configurations, e.g. to trigger reboots on an external PMIC chip. As a part of i2c_add_numbered_adapter() new I2C slave devices are added from DT which results in a call to driver_deferred_probe_trigger() 3. i2c_imx_probe() continues and calls i2c_imx_dma_request() which due to lack of proper DMA driver returns -EPROBE_DEFER 4. i2c_imx_probe() fails, removes I2C adapter and returns -EPROBE_DEFER, which places it into deferred probe list 5. Deferred probe work triggered in #2 above kicks in and calls i2c_imx_probe() again thus bringing us to step #1" So revert commit e1ab9a468e3b ("i2c: imx: improve the error handling in i2c_imx_dma_request()") and restore the old behaviour, in order to avoid regressions on existing setups. 2017-06-22i2c: imx: Use correct function to write to registerMichail Georgios Etairidis
The i2c-imx driver incorrectly uses readb()/writeb() to read and write to the appropriate registers when performing a repeated start. The appropriate imx_i2c_read_reg()/imx_i2c_write_reg() functions should be used instead. Performing a repeated start results in a kernel panic. The platform is imx. 2017-02-09i2c: busses: constify i2c_algorithm structuresBhumika Goyal
Declare i2c_algorithm structures as const as they are only stored in the algo field of an i2c_adapter structure. This field is of type const, so i2c_algorithm structures having this property can be made const too.
