While SCons building system was serving us really good for ages it's no longer
having much attention by the developers and started to become quite a difficult
task to maintain.
What's even worse -- there started to be quite serious divergence between SCons
and CMake which was only accumulating over the releases now. The fact that none
of the active developers are really using SCons and that our main studio is also
using CMake spotting bugs in the SCons builds became quite a difficult task and
we aren't always spotting them in time.
Meanwhile CMake became really mature building system which is available on every
platform we support and arguably it's also easier and more robust to use.
This commit includes:
- Removal of actual SCons building system
- Removal of SCons git submodule
- Removal of documentation which is stored in the sources and covers SCons
- Tweaks to the buildbot master to stop using SCons submodule
(this change requires deploying to the server)
- Tweaks to the install dependencies script to skip installing or mentioning
SCons building system
- Tweaks to various helper scripts to avoid mention of SCons folders/files
as well

obsolete compileflag magic
|

-ffast-math is evil, not sure why it was enabled...
I seems to work better on OSX but it's still not a good idea.
The SConscript for bullet is a mess, I don't understand why
we use different flags for different platforms in the first place.
Seems to be a historical artifact but I don't know enough about scons
to try and clean it up.

bullet, according cmake ( less speed penalty )
|

I overlooked in cmake my fix same time changed the optimization level to 0,
so not use optimization is the real fix ( postponed for after 2.70 ).
I appears we should investigate scons anyway: compileflags does not apply to c and c++ same time as expected.

CXXFLAGS start empty also in “Release”

are in sync for OSX
|

also remove gcc 4.6 workaround, i don’t think its needed any longer.
!!! pls check if this would be right thing todo for othere OS too !!!

Can't actually test here so hope this is enough.

Remove Jamfiles and other unused files that stuck around during previous updates.
Add patches for local changes to the patches directory.
Update readme.txt, it had outdated infromation.

===============================================
This patch adds a new "Character" BGE physics type which uses Bullet's btKinematicCharacter for simulation instead of full-blown dynamics. It is appropiate for (player-controlled) characters, for which the other physics types often result unexpected results (bouncing off walls, sliding etc.) and for which simple kinematics offers much more precision.
"Character" can be chosen like any other physics type in the "Physics" section of the properties window. Current settings for tweaking are "Step Height" (to make the object automatically climb small steps if it collides with them), "Fall Speed" (the maximum speed that the object can have when falling) and "Jump Speed", which is currently not used.
See http://projects.blender.org/tracker/?func=detail&atid=127&aid=28476&group_id=9
for sample blends and a discussion on the patch: how to use it and what influences the behavior of the character object.
Known problem: there is a crash if the "compound" option is set in the physics panel of the Character object.

slight modifications.

Change OURPLATFORM from "linux<major_version>" to simple "linux".
Since new policy for linux kernel versions that major version in
platform doesn't make much sense for building rules so the same
rules could be used for both of linux2 and linux3 now/
Tested on both of linux2 and linux3 systems.

Upped the priority for the softbody module so that gcc linkers (mingw, linux-gcc) would be able to resolve the dependencies. MSVC still worked though.

should go ok.
|
|
* bring back 'player' libtype, after investigation with ideasman.
scons/mingw works nicely, for some reason msvc fails to link still, will look further into it.
|
|
* ensure all SConscripts are ready for win64-vc (where necessary).
* ensure we have proper _DEBUG flag for Python when we're doing a debug build.
* some cleaning up of linking etc.
* ensure /EHsc is there for game engine modules.

Notes:
* Sequence transform strip uses G.scene global, this is commented
out now, should be fixed.
* Etch-a-ton code was most difficult to merge. The files already in
2.5 got merged, but no new files were added. Calls to these files
are commented out with "XXX etch-a-ton". editarmature.c and
transform_snap.c were complex to merge. Martin, please check?
* Game engine compiles and links again here for scons/make/cmake
(player still fails to link).
|
|
* add preliminary support for building Blender on 64bit Windows with _msvc_. The SConstruct should automatically detect if you are on a 64bit Windows and if you have that 64bit build is assumed. If you're not, 32bit build is assumed.
NOTE: this is still very much wip, so your mileage may vary. Do please report on b25 taskforce ML in case of trouble.
NOTE2: many of the libs are being linked in statically
NOTE3: hopefully I didn't break anything for other build platforms (mingw, linux, osx).
NOTE4: comes after NOTE3
|
|
* giving compileflags, cc_compileflags and cxx_compileflags to BlenderLib() now actually overrides any other setting (so there's no unclarity when ie. conflicting options are being specified in REL_CFLAGS et al). These are set after either release or debug flags, but before any *_WARN flags (so those stay maintained).
* add cxx_compileflags for GE parts on win32-vc to have better performance.
* NOTE: if platform maintainers (OSX and Linux) could check and do the same for their systems. Not vital, but probably very, very much welcomed by GE users.

Blender builds and links on Linux. For now without BGE and its player,
but that will come. Priorities are still a mess, so expect more commits
soon.
|

I did a very drastic cleanup for the different libgroups, there's now only a few left. It compiled with scons/msvc, will be testing in a bit on linux, too.
If you get any problems, please reply to this commit message on the taskforce ML.

fake world coordinate system to game soft bodies, although the vertices are already in world space.
Added Bullet/Gimpact concave collision detection to Blender. If your build system isn't updated yet, please add extern/bullet2/src/BulletCollision/Gimpact/*
This allows moving/dynamic concave triangle meshes (decomposing meshes into compound convex shapes, and using 'compound' shapes is still preferred)
