2022-02-11File headers: SPDX License migrationCampbell Barton
Use a shorter/simpler license convention, stops the header taking so much space. Follow the SPDX license specification: https://spdx.org/licenses - C/C++/objc/objc++ - Python - Shell Scripts - CMake, GNUmakefile While most of the source tree has been included - `./extern/` was left out. - `./intern/cycles` & `./intern/atomic` are also excluded because they use different header conventions. doc/license/SPDX-license-identifiers.txt has been added to list SPDX all used identifiers. See P2788 for the script that automated these edits. Reviewed By: brecht, mont29, sergey Ref D14069
2022-01-13Build: remove usage of link_directoriesBrecht Van Lommel
We are now always using absolute paths for libraries, as recommended by the CMake docs. Followup to D9177.
2021-10-26Cycles: changes to source code folders structureBrecht Van Lommel
* Split render/ into scene/ and session/. The scene/ folder now contains the scene and its nodes. The session/ folder contains the render session and associated data structures like drivers and render buffers. * Move top level kernel headers into new folders kernel/camera/, kernel/film/, kernel/light/, kernel/sample/, kernel/util/ * Move integrator related kernel headers into kernel/integrator/ * Move OSL shaders from kernel/shaders/ to kernel/osl/shaders/ For patches and branches, git merge and rebase should be able to detect the renames and move over code to the right file.
2021-09-30Cycles: refactor API for render outputBrecht Van Lommel
* Add OutputDriver, replacing function callbacks in Session. * Add PathTraceTile, replacing tile access methods in Session. * Add more detailed comments about how this driver should be implemented. * Add OIIOOutputDriver for Cycles standalone to output an image. 2021-09-21Cycles: merge of cycles-x branch, a major update to the rendererBrecht Van Lommel
This includes much improved GPU rendering performance, viewport interactivity, new shadow catcher, revamped sampling settings, subsurface scattering anisotropy, new GPU volume sampling, improved PMJ sampling pattern, and more. Some features have also been removed or changed, breaking backwards compatibility. Including the removal of the OpenCL backend, for which alternatives are under development. Release notes and code docs: https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Reference/Release_Notes/3.0/Cycles https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Source/Render/Cycles Credits: * Sergey Sharybin * Brecht Van Lommel * Patrick Mours (OptiX backend) * Christophe Hery (subsurface scattering anisotropy) * William Leeson (PMJ sampling pattern) * Alaska (various fixes and tweaks) * Thomas Dinges (various fixes) For the full commit history, see the cycles-x branch. This squashes together all the changes since intermediate changes would often fail building or tests. Ref T87839, T87837, T87836 Fixes T90734, T89353, T80267, T80267, T77185, T69800

2020-07-09EEVEE: Implement the missing Sky textureSzymon Ulatowski
I'm not sure if the Sky was deliberately left out or was just waiting for a better moment, but so many I was disappointed that Sky in EEVEE is completely white. There are already 2 implementations (osl and gpu) so this is the third one. Looking at other cases it seems that we are not supposed to share sources between cycles and the rest? So the new util_sky_model files are just copies of what is already in cycles, except that the data file uses the RGB variant of the Hosek/Wilkie model, because we output RGB anyway (but can be easily changed to XYZ if desired - the results are nearly identical). I am not sure if it is okay to pass 3*9 float values as 3 mat4 uniforms (I wanted to use mat3 but it does not work). Also, should I cache the sky model data between renders if the parameters do not change? Reviewed By: fclem, brecht Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D7108
2020-03-18Cycles: support rendering new Volume object typeBrecht Van Lommel
Voxels are loaded directly from the OpenVDB grid. Rendering still only supports dense grid, so memory usage is not great for sparse volumes, this is to be addressed in the future. Ref T73201

2018-11-07Cycles: Added Embree as BVH option for CPU renders.Stefan Werner
Note that this is turned off by default and must be enabled at build time with the CMake WITH_CYCLES_EMBREE flag. Embree must be built as a static library with ray masking turned on, the `make deps` scripts have been updated accordingly. There, Embree is off by default too and must be enabled with the WITH_EMBREE flag. Using Embree allows for much faster rendering of deformation motion blur while reducing the memory footprint. TODO: GPU implementation, deduplication of data, leveraging more of Embrees features (e.g. tessellation cache). Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D3682

Similar to previous commit for Gflags.
2017-04-21CMake: Add option to link against system-wide Gflags librarySergey Sharybin
It is disabled by default, so should not affect existing configurations. Main benefits of this goes as: - Linux distros can use that to avoid libraries duplication and link blender package against gflags package from the system. - It it easier to test whether Blender works with updated version of Gflags prior to re-bundling the library.

2016-01-14Cycles: Add option to directly link against CUDA librariesSergey Sharybin
The main purpose of such linking is to make Blender compatible with NVidia's debuggers and profilers which are doing some LD_PRELOAD magic to intercept some function calls. Such magic conflicts with our CUDA wrangler magic and causes segmentation faults. The option is disabled by default, so there's no affect on any of artists. In order to make Blender linked directly against CUDA library use the WITH_CUDA_DYNLOAD CMake option (it's marked as advanced).

2014-12-31Cycles: Post-reintegration tweaks to ensure things do compileSergey Sharybin
This commit contains all the tweaks which were missing in initial patch re-integration from the standalone Cycles repository. This commit also contains an utility cmake macro to help linking targets with different libraries for release/debug builds, the name currently is target_link_libraries_decoupled it gets a target and list of libraries and makes sure debug builds are using libraries with "_d" suffix. After all this changes it'll hopefully be easier to interchange patches between blender and standalone repositories, because they're now quite identical.
2014-12-31CMake: Rework linking strategy a bitSergey Sharybin
Made it a dedicated macro to link release/debug targets against lib/lib_d libraries which helps keeping code a bit more clean. Also made it so MSVC is now happy about building debug Cycles with OSL support. Reshuffled code a bit and put some comments about what's going on, which should make it a bit more clear.
2014-12-31Cycles FTBFS: Send Boost after OIIO to the linker since the order mattersSergey Sharybin
2014-12-31Cycles Standalone: Add initial support for compilation on WindowsSergey Sharybin
This applies to an application comiling from the standalone Cycles repository only. There's still lack of proper install target, so currently pthreads library is to be copied next to cycles.exe manually.
2014-12-31Cycles: Fully support WITH_CYCLES_LOGGING optionSergey Sharybin
This commit generalizes logging module a little bit in making it possible to use Glog logging in standalone Cycles repository.
2014-12-31CMake: Minor cleanupSergey Sharybin
2014-12-31Cycles: Fix compilation error when OIIO is compiled with external PugiXML parserSergey Sharybin
Basic idea is to check whether OIIO is compiled with embedded PugiXML parser and if so use PugiXML from OIIO, otherwise find a standalone PugiXML library.
2014-12-31CMake: use pthreads on all os'sCampbell Barton

2014-08-05Deduplicate CUDA and OpenCL wranglersSergey Sharybin
For now it was mainly about OpenCL wrangler being duplicated between Cycles and Compositor, but with OpenSubdiv work those wranglers were gonna to be duplicated just once again. This commit makes it so Cycles and Compositor uses wranglers from this repositories: - https://github.com/CudaWrangler/cuew - https://github.com/OpenCLWrangler/clew This repositories are based on the wranglers we used before and they'll be likely continued maintaining by us plus some more players in the market. Pretty much straightforward change with some tricks in the CMake/SCons to make this libs being passed to the linker after all other libraries in order to make OpenSubdiv linked against those wranglers in the future. For those who're worrying about Cycles being less standalone, it's not truth, it's rather more flexible now and in the future different wranglers might be used in Cycles. For now it'll just mean those libs would need to be put into Cycles repository together with some other libs from Blender such as mikkspace. This is mainly platform maintenance commit, should not be any changes to the user space.
