Also use doxy style function reference `#` prefix chars when referencing identifiers.
2021-07-01Cleanup: split normal calculation into it's own fileCampbell Barton
Normals now includes many functions including normal splitting & custom normal manipulation split this into it's own file to centralize related functions.

2021-06-18Cleanup: remove unused MFace custom-data utilitiesCampbell Barton
Remove: - BKE_mesh_loops_to_mface_corners - BKE_mesh_tangent_loops_to_tessdata
2021-06-18Cleanup: move mesh tessellation into it's own fileCampbell Barton
This matches BMesh which also has tessellation in it's own file. Using a separate file helps with organization when extracting code into smaller functions.

2021-06-15BLI: use explicit task isolation, no longer part of parallel operationsBrecht Van Lommel
After looking into task isolation issues with Sergey, we couldn't find the reason behind the deadlocks that we are getting in T87938 and a Sprite Fright file involving motion blur renders. There is no apparent place where we adding or waiting on tasks in a task group from different isolation regions, which is what is known to cause problems. Yet it still hangs. Either we do not understand some limitation of TBB isolation, or there is a bug in TBB, but we could not figure it out. Instead the idea is to use isolation only where we know we need it: when holding a mutex lock and then doing some multithreaded operation within that locked region. Three places where we do this now: * Generated images * Cached BVH tree building * OpenVDB lazy grid loading Compared to the more automatic approach previously used, there is the downside that it is easy to miss places where we need isolation. Yet doing it more automatically is also causing unexpected issue and bugs that we found no solution for, so this seems better. Patch implemented by Sergey and me. 2021-06-13Cleanup: redundant initializationCampbell Barton
These were limited to obvious cases. Some less obvious cases were kept as refactoring might make them necessary in future.
2021-06-08BLI: support disabling task isolation in task poolJacques Lucke
Under some circumstances using task isolation can cause deadlocks. Previously, our task pool implementation would run all tasks in an isolated region. Now using task isolation is optional and can be turned on/off for individual task pools. Task pools that spawn new tasks recursively should never enable task isolation. There is a new check that finds these cases at runtime. Right now this check is disabled, so that this commit is a pure refactor. It will be enabled in an upcoming commit. This fixes T88598. 2020-06-18Fix T65986: Inaccurate center of mass, calculating mesh centerCampbell Barton
Use a median center of polygons as an initial value for volume center calculation since the volume accumulation quickly generates very large numbers that become inaccurate if the geometry is too far from it's current center.
2020-05-25Mesh: skip conversion from edit-mesh to mesh in edit-modeCampbell Barton
This resolves a performance regression in 2.8x where every edit-mode update performed an edit-mesh to mesh conversion. Now the conversion will be lazily initialized if/when it's required. New BKE_mesh_wrapper_* functions abstract over mesh data access. Currently only edit-mesh and regular meshes are supported. In the future sub-surface meshes may be supported too.
2020-04-30Task: Use TBB as Task SchedulerBrecht Van Lommel
This patch enables TBB as the default task scheduler. TBB stands for Threading Building Blocks and is developed by Intel. The library contains several threading patters. This patch maps blenders BLI_task_* function to their counterpart. After this patch we can add more patterns. A promising one is TBB:graph that can be used for depsgraph, draw manager and compositor. Performance changes depends on the actual hardware. It was tested on different hardwares from laptops to workstations and we didn't detected any downgrade of the performance. * Linux Xeon E5-2699 v4 got FPS boost from 12 to 17 using Spring's 04_010_A.anim.blend. * AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX 32-Core Animation playback goes from 9.5-10.5 FPS to 13.0-14.0 FPS on Agent 327 , 10_03_B.anim.blend. 2019-08-14Mesh Batch Cache: Refactor + MultithreadClément Foucault
For clarity sake, the batch cache now uses exclusively per Loop attributes. While this is a bit of a waste of VRAM (for the few case where per vert attribs are enough) it reduces the complexity and amount of overall VBO to update in general situations. This patch also makes the VertexBuffers filling multithreaded. This make the update of dense meshes a bit faster. The main bottleneck is the IndexBuffers update which cannot be multithreaded efficiently (have to increment a counter and/or do a final sorting pass). We introduce the concept of "extract" functions/step. All extract functions are executed in one thread each and if possible, using multiple thread for looping over all elements. 2019-03-08Fix potential bad behavior, and cleanup/refactor a bit ↵Bastien Montagne
BKE_mesh_ensure_normals_for_display(). This is merely making behaviors of this function a bit more explicit, and avoid re-adding another CD_NORMAL layer to polys in the (unlikely) case it would already have one. It also handles CD_MASK_NORMAL in cd_dirty_poly, but this is more like future-proof thing, this is not used anywhere currently afaik.

BF-admins agree to remove header information that isn't useful, to reduce noise. - BEGIN/END license blocks Developers should add non license comments as separate comment blocks. No need for separator text. - Contributors This is often invalid, outdated or misleading especially when splitting files. It's more useful to git-blame to find out who has developed the code.
