2022-02-11File headers: SPDX License migrationCampbell Barton
Use a shorter/simpler license convention, stops the header taking so much space. Follow the SPDX license specification: https://spdx.org/licenses - C/C++/objc/objc++ - Python - Shell Scripts - CMake, GNUmakefile While most of the source tree has been included - `./extern/` was left out. - `./intern/cycles` & `./intern/atomic` are also excluded because they use different header conventions. doc/license/SPDX-license-identifiers.txt has been added to list SPDX all used identifiers. See P2788 for the script that automated these edits. Reviewed By: brecht, mont29, sergey Ref D14069

Part of a refactoring to make IMB_transform more generic to reduce unneeded branching.
2021-12-03ImBuf: Made Wrapping and Cropping optional in IMB_transform.Jeroen Bakker
`IMB_transform` is used in VSE. It had a required crop parameter for cropping the source buffer. This is not always needed. In the image engine we want to use the use the `IMB_transform` with wrap repeat. Both options are mutual exclusive and due to performance reasons the wrap repeat is only available when performing a nearest interpolation.

Caused by using 3D math on 2D vectors, violating memory boundaries. Use temporary float[3] variable.
2021-10-16Remove math for 2D affine transformRichard Antalik
Commit e1665c3d3190 added math to do 2D affine transformations with 3x3 matrices, but these matrices are also used for 3D transformations. Remove added functions and use 4x4 matrices for 2D transformation. Reviewed By: campbellbarton Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D12510

2021-06-15BLI: use explicit task isolation, no longer part of parallel operationsBrecht Van Lommel
After looking into task isolation issues with Sergey, we couldn't find the reason behind the deadlocks that we are getting in T87938 and a Sprite Fright file involving motion blur renders. There is no apparent place where we adding or waiting on tasks in a task group from different isolation regions, which is what is known to cause problems. Yet it still hangs. Either we do not understand some limitation of TBB isolation, or there is a bug in TBB, but we could not figure it out. Instead the idea is to use isolation only where we know we need it: when holding a mutex lock and then doing some multithreaded operation within that locked region. Three places where we do this now: * Generated images * Cached BVH tree building * OpenVDB lazy grid loading Compared to the more automatic approach previously used, there is the downside that it is easy to miss places where we need isolation. Yet doing it more automatically is also causing unexpected issue and bugs that we found no solution for, so this seems better. Patch implemented by Sergey and me. 2021-06-11Performance: Use parallel range for ImBuf scanline processor.Jeroen Bakker
Scanline processor did its own heurestic what didn't scale well when having a multiple cores. In stead of using our own code this patch will leave it to TBB to determine how to split the scanlines over the available threads. Performance of the IMB_transform before this change was 0.002123s, with this change 0.001601s. This change increases performance in other areas as well including color management conversions. 2021-06-11Performance: Split ImBuf sampling.Jeroen Bakker
When sampling ImBuf can be a char or a float buffer. Current sampling functions added overhead by checking which kind of buffer was passed every pixel that was sampled. When performing image processing this check can be removed outside the inner loop adding 5% of performance increase in the `IMB_transform` operator.
2021-06-11Sequencer: Transform ImBuf Processor.Jeroen Bakker
Inside the sequencer the cropping and transform of images/buffers were implemented locally. This reduced the optimizations that a compiler could do and added confusing code styles. This patch adds `IMB_transform` to reduce the confusion and increases compiler optimizations as more code can be inlined and we can keep track of indices inside the inner loop. This increases end-user performance by 30% when playing back aa video in VSE. Reviewed By: ISS, zeddb Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D11549
2021-06-08BLI: support disabling task isolation in task poolJacques Lucke
Under some circumstances using task isolation can cause deadlocks. Previously, our task pool implementation would run all tasks in an isolated region. Now using task isolation is optional and can be turned on/off for individual task pools. Task pools that spawn new tasks recursively should never enable task isolation. There is a new check that finds these cases at runtime. Right now this check is disabled, so that this commit is a pure refactor. It will be enabled in an upcoming commit. This fixes T88598. 2020-10-19Image: Export emissive colors in 3 channel PNG imagesJeroen Bakker
Related to T81199. When saving a rendered image with transparency (RGBA) to a 3 channel PNG image the emissive colors were not exported. This change adds the emissive colors to the written file. NOTE: this does not fix the limitation of writing emissive colors to a 4 channel PNG file as the file format does not support this.

2020-04-30Task: Use TBB as Task SchedulerBrecht Van Lommel
This patch enables TBB as the default task scheduler. TBB stands for Threading Building Blocks and is developed by Intel. The library contains several threading patters. This patch maps blenders BLI_task_* function to their counterpart. After this patch we can add more patterns. A promising one is TBB:graph that can be used for depsgraph, draw manager and compositor. Performance changes depends on the actual hardware. It was tested on different hardwares from laptops to workstations and we didn't detected any downgrade of the performance. * Linux Xeon E5-2699 v4 got FPS boost from 12 to 17 using Spring's 04_010_A.anim.blend. * AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX 32-Core Animation playback goes from 9.5-10.5 FPS to 13.0-14.0 FPS on Agent 327 , 10_03_B.anim.blend. 2015-04-30Fix T44541 aka gigapixel image render support in blender.Antony Riakiotakis
Moral of the story: Make sure that size_t is used whenever pointer arithmetic is involved. For images, that basically means whenever any squared dimensions are involved. Casting an operand to size_t early in the operation is usually sufficient to force the entire operation to size_t. There might still be places lurking where we don't support this correctly. This has been tested with render pipeline, quite a few image functions (meaning we can paint on such images now, albeit somewhat slowly ;) ) and export to jpeg. Too many places in code to check so I guess we'll be handling cases as they come. Don't try this at home unless you have an immense ammount of RAM. First GPixel render of suzanne in the multiverse can be found here: http://download.blender.org/demo/test/suzanne-billion-pixel.jpg Can be viewed from blender (takes about 3.3 GB after loading but may take more during loading so 8GB might be more safe to try this).

2013-12-25Use generic task scheduler for threaded image processorSergey Sharybin
It allows to schedule tasks of smaller size without having threads overhead or extra worry about splitting tasks into smaller pieces. This simplifies code in color management which was manually splitting task into smaller chunks to keep memory usage low. Further optimization is possible by avoid malloc called from threads, but that's how it used to work for ages already and would be optimized as a separate patch.
2013-12-04Fix for interpolation errors on lower-left borders in compositor imageLukas Tönne
inputs. http://wiki.blender.org/uploads/4/4c/Compo_image_interpolation_borders.png Problem is that all image buffer reader nodes (RenderLayer, Image, MovieClip) were clipping pixel coordinates to 0..N range (N being width or height respectively). Bilinear interpolation works ok then on the upper-right borders (x, N) and (N, y), since the last (N-1) pixel fades out to N (background). But the lower-left (x, 0) and (0, y) borders are not correctly interpolated because the nodes cut off the negative pixels before the interpolation function can calculate their value. To fix this, the interpolation functions are now entirely responsible for handling "out of range" cases, i.e. setting (0,0,0,0) results for invalid pixels, while also handling interpolation for borders. Callers should not do pixel range checks themselves, which also makes the code simpler. Should not have any real performance penalty, the interpolation functions do this check anyway, so is probably even slightly faster.
2013-08-23Fix #36535: Color difference when saving imageSergey Sharybin
Issue was caused by precision loss in alpha under code. Now it might be slower a bit, but it's as precise as it could be. At least i hope so :)
