2022-08-31Core: Remove color attribute limit from CustomData APIJoseph Eagar
Note: does not fix the limit in PBVH draw which is caused by VBO limits not MAX_MCOL.

2022-05-29Cleanup: Simplify custom data file writing processHans Goudey
Previously the function had a fair amount of ugly boilerplate to avoid allocating the temporary layers array, and then free it if necessary. `blender::Vector` solves that problem more elegantly. Passing a span, using references in a few cases, and using a switch statement also make the functions simpler. This refactoring is in preparation for D14583 and D14685. 2022-04-20Cleanup: Rename CD_MLOOPCOL to CD_PROP_BYTE_COLORHans Goudey
The "PROP" in the name reflects its generic status, and removing "LOOP" makes sense because it is no longer associated with just mesh face corners. In general the goal is to remove extra semantic meaning from the custom data types.
2022-04-05Refactor: Unify vertex and sculpt colors into newJoseph Eagar
color attribute system. This commit removes sculpt colors from experimental status and unifies it with vertex colors. It introduces the concept of "color attributes", which are any attributes that represents colors. Color attributes can be represented with byte or floating-point numbers and can be stored in either vertices or face corners. Color attributes share a common namespace (so you can no longer have a floating-point sculpt color attribute and a byte vertex color attribute with the same name). Note: this commit does not include vertex paint mode, which is a separate patch, see: https://developer.blender.org/D14179 Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D12587 Ref D12587

2022-02-22Fix T95839: Data race when lazily creating mesh normal layersHans Goudey
Currently, when normals are calculated for a const mesh, a custom data layer might be added if it doesn't already exist. Adding a custom data layer to a mesh is not thread-safe, so this can be a problem in some situations. This commit moves derived mesh normals for polygons and vertices out of `CustomData` to `Mesh_Runtime`. Most of the hard work for this was already done by rBcfa53e0fbeed7178. Some changes to logic elsewhere are necessary/helpful: - No need to call both `BKE_mesh_runtime_clear_cache` and `BKE_mesh_normals_tag_dirty`, since the former also does the latter. - Cleanup/simplify mesh conversion and copying since normals are handled with other runtime data. Storing these normals like other runtime data clarifies their status as derived data, meaning custom data moves more towards storing original/editable data. This means normals won't automatically benefit from the planned copy-on-write refactor (T95845), so it will have to be added manually like for the other runtime data. Use a shorter/simpler license convention, stops the header taking so much space. Follow the SPDX license specification: https://spdx.org/licenses - C/C++/objc/objc++ - Python - Shell Scripts - CMake, GNUmakefile While most of the source tree has been included - `./extern/` was left out. - `./intern/cycles` & `./intern/atomic` are also excluded because they use different header conventions. doc/license/SPDX-license-identifiers.txt has been added to list SPDX all used identifiers. 2022-02-04Attributes: Infrastructure for generic 8-bit integer data typeHans Goudey
This commit adds infrastructure for 8 bit signed integer attributes. This can be useful given the discussion in T94193, where we want to store spline type, Bezier handle type, and other small enums as attributes. This is only exposed in the interface in the attribute lists, so it shouldn't be an option in geometry nodes, at least for now. I expect that this type won't be used directly very often, it should mostly be cast to an enum type. However, with support for 8 bit integers, it also makes sense to add things like mixing implementations for consistency. Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D13721
2022-02-03Cleanup: Add comment about unsed custom data typeHans Goudey
Since f59767ff97295404d, these hair layer types are unused. Since DNA compatibility was broken with any files that would contain them, the indices can be reused to avoid growing custom data's typemap.

2022-01-20Subdivision: add support for vertex creasingKévin Dietrich
This adds vertex creasing support for OpenSubDiv for modeling, rendering, Alembic and USD I/O. For modeling, vertex creasing follows the edge creasing implementation with an operator accessible through the Vertex menu in Edit Mode, and some parameter in the properties panel. The option in the Subsurf and Multires to use edge creasing also affects vertex creasing. The vertex crease data is stored as a CustomData layer, unlike edge creases which for now are stored in `MEdge`, but will in the future also be moved to a `CustomData` layer. See comments for details on the difference in behavior for the `CD_CREASE` layer between egdes and vertices. For Cycles this adds sockets on the Mesh node to hold data about which vertices are creased (one socket for the indices, one for the weigths). Viewport rendering of vertex creasing reuses the same color scheme as for edges and creased vertices are drawn bigger than uncreased vertices. For Alembic and USD, vertex crease support follows the edge crease implementation, they are always read, but only exported if a `Subsurf` modifier is present on the Mesh. 2021-09-09Geometry Nodes: fields and anonymous attributesJacques Lucke
This implements the initial core framework for fields and anonymous attributes (also see T91274). The new functionality is hidden behind the "Geometry Nodes Fields" feature flag. When enabled in the user preferences, the following new nodes become available: `Position`, `Index`, `Normal`, `Set Position` and `Attribute Capture`. Socket inspection has not been updated to work with fields yet. Besides these changes at the user level, this patch contains the ground work for: * building and evaluating fields at run-time (`FN_fields.hh`) and * creating and accessing anonymous attributes on geometry (`BKE_anonymous_attribute.h`). For evaluating fields we use a new so called multi-function procedure (`FN_multi_function_procedure.hh`). It allows composing multi-functions in arbitrary ways and supports efficient evaluation as is required by fields. See `FN_multi_function_procedure.hh` for more details on how this evaluation mechanism can be used. A new `AttributeIDRef` has been added which allows handling named and anonymous attributes in the same way in many places. Hans and I worked on this patch together. 2020-12-17Geometry Nodes: Point separate and attribute compare nodesHans Goudey
This patch adds two related nodes, a node for separating points and mesh vertices based on a boolean attribute input, and a node for creating boolean attributes with comparisons. See the differential for an example file and video. Point Separate (T83059) The output in both geometries is just point data, contained in the mesh and point cloud components, depending which components had data in the input geometry. Any points with the mask attribute set to true will be moved from the first geometry output to the second. This means that for meshes, all edge and face data will be removed. Any point domain attributes are moved to the correct output geometry as well. Attribute Compare (T83057) The attribute compare does the "Equal" and "Not Equal" operations by comparing vectors and colors based on their distance from each other. For other operations, the comparison is between the lengths of the vector inputs. In general, the highest complexity data type is used for the operation, and a new function to determine that is added. Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D9876
2020-12-16Geometry Nodes: Boolean attribute typeHans Goudey
This adds a boolean attribute and custom data type, to be used in the point separate node. It also adds it as supported data types in the random attribute and attribute fill nodes. There are more clever ways of storing a boolean attribute that make more sense in certain situations-- sets, bitfields, and others, this commit keeps it simple, saving those changes for when there is a proper use case for them. In any case, we will still probably always want the idea of a boolean attribute. Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D9818

Also that made it harder to add any C++ code to some headers, or include headers that have "optional" C++ code like `MEM_guardedalloc.h`. I tested compilation on linux and windows (and got help from @LazyDodo). 2020-03-05Sculpt Face SetsPablo Dobarro
Face Sets are the new system to control the visibility state of the mesh in sculpt and paint modes. They are designed to work in modes where brushes are the primary way of interaction and they provide much more control when working with meshes with complex shapes and overlapping surfaces. This initial commit includes: - Sculpt Face Sets data structures and PBVH rendering. - Face Set overlay and opacity controls. - Sculpt Undo support. - Remesher reprojection support. The visibility state of the mesh is also preserved when remeshing. - Automasking and Mesh filter support. - Mask expand operator mode to expand Face Sets (Shift + W) and flood fill areas by connectivity (press Ctrl while expanding). - Sculpt Mode Face Sets and Visibility API. - Sculpt Face Sets creation and visibility management operators. - Operator to randomize the Face Sets colors. - Draw Face Sets brush tool to create and edit the Face Sets. Drawing on the mesh creates a new Face Set. Pressing Ctrl before drawing modifies the Face Set under the brush at the beginning of the stroke. - Updated keymap and menu to work with Face Sets from Sculpt Mode (H to toggle visibility, Alt + H to show all, Shit + H to hide). - Pie menu on the W key with Face common Sets operations. 2019-07-03Fix T66369: Excessive WARN messages in console when opening older filesBastien Montagne
CDData checking on file load was not taking into account deprecated CD_MTEXPOLY datatype, which unfortunately shows same weird glitch as CD_PAINT_MASK and CD_FACEMAP ones... Note that it was annoying (due to amount of warnings in console), but totally harmless, since that data type is just deleted anyway. This commit also generally cleans up the CD_MTEXPOLY deprecation code, we have a system to handle that, let's use it, instead of defining local static values to replace it...

2019-03-07Refactor CDData masks, to have one mask per mesh elem type.Bastien Montagne
We already have different storages for cddata of verts, edges etc., 'simply' do the same for the mask flags we use all around Blender code to request some data, or limit some operation to some layers, etc. Reason we need this is that some cddata types (like Normals) are actually shared between verts/polys/loops, and we don’t want to generate clnors everytime we request vnors! As a side note, this also does final fix to T59338, which was the trigger for this patch (need to request computed loop normals for another mesh than evaluated one). 2015-07-21Fix T45471: Blend file: Bad old_addr handling in mesh's customdata writing.Bastien Montagne
Issue is rather well explained in T45471: our current customdata writing code easily generates several different blocks in blend file with same 'old' address. This is bad, because those addresses are used as 'uid' during reading process (it kind of work in Blender's own reading process, by mere luck mostly, but breaks the file specs). Solution (suggested by Campbell, thanks) implemented by this patch is to avoid duplicating everything, and instead just overwrite what we needs to skip some cdlayers on write: * the CustomData's `totlayer` number; * the CustomData's `layers` array of CustomDataLayer (keeping its original address using the `writestruct_at_address` helper). New design allows us to get completely rid of the no_free flag stuff in `write_customdata()`. Note that this implies written data is **not** directly valid from Blend PoV, since its written typemap does not match written layers (this is not an issue because typemap is rebuilt on read anyway - and it's easy to fix this if really needed). Also, the backward compatibility saving of mface data remains an issue here, see comment in code.
