2018-06-12T55454: removal of clay engineJeroen Bakker
The ClayEngine was introduced to test the blender2.8 architecture during development. As currently we have the wanted features implemented with matcaps we are going to remove the clay engine as it was never intended to be an official releasable engine Note: The test cases are never run. But when enabled will be skipped as they were implemented over the Clay Engine
2018-06-01Workbench: Material specific settings for the specularJeroen Bakker
- Uses the roughness setting of the basic eevee material - renamed gloss_mir to roughness - set default of roughness to 0.25 - renamed ray_mirror to metallic - cleaned up material rna (BI mirror struct) - use BLINN phong model - normalize incoming/outgoing specular light - when using camera oriented studiolight, the SolidLight will be used for specular highlights - EXPERIMENT: when in world oriented studiolight only the shadow direction will be used. - change the settings of the internal light to make scenes more readable
2018-04-19Remove Blender Internal and legacy viewport from Blender 2.8.Ton Roosendaal
Brecht authored this commit, but he gave me the honours to actually do it. Here it goes; Blender Internal. Bye bye, you did great! * Point density, voxel data, ocean, environment map textures were removed, as these only worked within BI rendering. Note that the ocean modifier and the Cycles point density shader node continue to work. * Dynamic paint using material shading was removed, as this only worked with BI. If we ever wanted to support this again probably it should go through the baking API. * GPU shader export through the Python API was removed. This only worked for the old BI GLSL shaders, which no longer exists. Doing something similar for Eevee would be significantly more complicated because it uses a lot of multiplass rendering and logic outside the shader, it's probably impractical. * Collada material import / export code is mostly gone, as it only worked for BI materials. We need to add Cycles / Eevee material support at some point. * The mesh noise operator was removed since it only worked with BI material texture slots. A displacement modifier can be used instead. * The delete texture paint slot operator was removed since it only worked for BI material texture slots. Could be added back with node support. * Not all legacy viewport features are supported in the new viewport, but their code was removed. If we need to bring anything back we can look at older git revisions. * There is some legacy viewport code that I could not remove yet, and some that I probably missed. * Shader node execution code was left mostly intact, even though it is not used anywhere now. We may eventually use this to replace the texture nodes with Cycles / Eevee shader nodes. * The Cycles Bake panel now includes settings for baking multires normal and displacement maps. The underlying code needs to be merged properly, and we plan to add back support for multires AO baking and add support to Cycles baking for features like vertex color, displacement, and other missing baking features. * This commit removes DNA and the Python API for BI material, lamp, world and scene settings. This breaks a lot of addons. * There is more DNA that can be removed or renamed, where Cycles or Eevee are reusing some old BI properties but the names are not really correct anymore. * Texture slots for materials, lamps and world were removed. They remain for brushes, particles and freestyle linestyles. * 'BLENDER_RENDER' remains in the COMPAT_ENGINES of UI panels. Cycles and other renderers use this to find all panels to show, minus a few panels that they have their own replacement for.
2018-04-17Removing Blender Game Engine from Blender 2.8Dalai Felinto
Folders removed entirely: * //extern/recastnavigation * //intern/decklink * //intern/moto * //source/blender/editors/space_logic * //source/blenderplayer * //source/gameengine This includes DNA data and any reference to the BGE code in Blender itself. We are bumping the subversion. Pending tasks: * Tile/clamp code in image editor draw code. * Viewport drawing code (so much of this will go away because of BI removal that we can wait until then to remove this.
2017-11-22Eevee : SSS : Add Translucency support.Clément Foucault
This adds the possibility to simulate things like red ears with strong backlight or material with high scattering distances. To enable it you need to turn on the "Subsurface Translucency" option in the "Options" tab of the Material Panel (and of course to have "regular" SSS enabled in both render settings and material options). Since the effect is adding another overhead I prefer to make it optional. But this is open to discussion. Be aware that the effect only works for direct lights (so no indirect/world lighting) that have shadowmaps, and is affected by the "softness" of the shadowmap and resolution. Technical notes: This is inspired by http://www.iryoku.com/translucency/ but goes a bit beyond that. We do not use a sum of gaussian to apply in regards to the object thickness but we precompute a 1D kernel texture. This texture stores the light transmited to a point at the back of an infinite slab of material of variying thickness. We make the assumption that the slab is perpendicular to the light so that no fresnel or diffusion term is taken into account. The light is considered constant. If the setup is similar to the one assume during the profile baking, the realtime render matches cycles reference. Due to these assumptions the computed transmitted light is in most cases too bright for curvy objects. Finally we jitter the shadow map sample per pixel so we can simulate dispersion inside the medium. Radius of the dispersion is in world space and derived by from the "soft" shadowmap parameter. Idea for this come from this presentation http://www.iryoku.com/stare-into-the-future (slide 164).
2017-11-14Eevee: Initial Separable Subsurface Scattering implementation.Clément Foucault
How to use: - Enable subsurface scattering in the render options. - Add Subsurface BSDF to your shader. - Check "Screen Space Subsurface Scattering" in the material panel options. This initial implementation has a few limitations: - only supports gaussian SSS. - Does not support principled shader. - The radius parameters is baked down to a number of samples and then put into an UBO. This means the radius input socket cannot be used. You need to tweak the default vector directly. - The "texture blur" is considered as always set to 1
2017-08-10Eevee: Refraction: Add "thickness" parameter.Clément Foucault
This enables to fake a second refraction event. This is great to simulate thin planar objects such as glass panels.
2017-08-10Eevee: Refraction: Make it available for opaque materials.Clément Foucault
Theses Materials are rendered after the SSR pass. The only difference with previous method is that they have a depth prepass (less overdraw) and are not sorted.
2017-08-10Eevee: Add Screen Space Refraction.Clément Foucault
For the moment the only way to enable this is to: - enable Screen Space REFLECTIONS. - enable Screen Space Refraction in the SSR parameters. - enable Screen Space Refraction in the material tab.

2017-05-24Remove TexFace, per-face imagesCampbell Barton
TexFace complicates the now more popular shading pipeline by having per-face images, see: T51382 for details. To keep the ability to select a per-material edit-image (used with UV-mapping workflow), the material now stores an image which will be set when changing images in edit-mode. This is used as a bake-target when not using Cycles too.
2017-03-30Layers: use IDProperty and override collection properties systemDalai Felinto
First this replace a custom data struct with IDProperty, and use IDProperty group merge and copying functions. Which means that a collection property setting is only created if necessary. This implements the "Layer Collection settings" override system, as suggested in the "Override Manifesto" document. The core is working, with Scene, LayerCollection and Object using a single IDProperty to store all the render settings data. Next step is to migrate this to depsgraph. Note: Clay engine "ssao_samples" was hardcoded to 32 for now. It will come back as part of "Workspace Settings" later. Many thanks for Bastien Montagne for the help with the UI template nightmare ;) Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D2563
2017-02-07Clay-Engine (merge clay-engine)Clément Foucault
Initial work by Clément Foucault with contributions from Dalai Felinto (mainly per-collection engine settings logic, and depsgraph iterator placeholder). This makes Blender require OpenGL 3.3. Which means Intel graphic card and OSX will break. Disable CLAY_ENGINE in CMake in those cases. This is a prototype render engine intended to help the design of real render engines. This is mainly an engine with enphasis in matcap and ambient occlusion. Implemented Features -------------------- * Clay Render Engine, following the new API, to be used as reference for future engines * A more complete Matcap customization with more options * Per-Collection render engine settings * New Ground Truth AO - not enabled Missing Features ---------------- * Finish object edit mode - Fix shaders to use new matrix - Fix artifacts when edge does off screen - Fix depth issue - Selection sillhouette - Mesh wires - Use mesh normals (for higher quality matcap) - Non-Mesh objects drawing - Widget drawing - Performance issues * Finish mesh edit mode - Derived-Mesh-less edit mode API (mesh_rende.c) * General edit mode - Per-collection edit mode settings * General engines - Per-collection engine settings (they are their, but they still need to be flushed by depsgraph, and used by the drawing code)
2016-04-26Support multiple tangents for BI render & viewportAlexander Romanov
Normal Map node support for GLSL mode and the internal render (multiple tangents support). The Normal Map node is a useful node which is present in the Cycles render. It makes it possible to use normal mapping without additional material node in a node tree. This patch implements Normal Map node for GLSL mode and the internal render. Previously only the active UV layer was used to calculate tangents.

2014-07-07Per-material line color settings for Freestyle.Tamito Kajiyama
New properties 'line_color' and 'line_priority' are added to Material ID data blocks. The 'line_color' property allows users to specify a per-material line color that can be used as a Freestyle line color through Material color modifiers of line style settings. The new line color property is intended to provide a solution for line color stylization when a proper Freestyle support for Cycles is implemented (likely as part of the upcoming Blender 2.72 release; see Patch D632). Materials in Cycles are usually set up using shader nodes, and Freestyle won't be capable of retrieving colors and other properties from node-based materials any soon. The new line color property of materials addresses this foreseen limitation by providing artists with an intuitive alternative mean to specify line colors on a per-material basis independently from node trees. The 'line_priority' property gives users a way to control line colors at material boundaries. When a line is drawn along a feature edge at material boundaries, one of the two materials on both sides of the edge has to be picked up to determine the line color. So far there was no way to control this selection (which was in effect at random). Now the material with a higher line color priority will be selected. The new per-material line settings are shown in the new Freestyle Line tab in the Material context of the Properties window (only when Freestyle is enabled).
2014-04-23Blender Internal: Add material property "Cast" which can disable both ray ↵IRIE Shinsuke

2014-02-12Revert own previous commit rBe2f9afbaabbd.IRIE Shinsuke
The "Cast Shadows" worked as expected, but it can cause problem in some cases. For example, when using strand render, we need disabling only buffer shadows, but the previous changes made that impossible. "Cast Shadows" should be added as a newly created option.
2014-02-11Blender Internal: Modify material property "Cast Buffer Shadows" to affect ↵IRIE Shinsuke
ray shadows also, and rename it to "Cast Shadows". This allows us to make materials that don't cast ray shadows. Turning off this property can reduce the rendering time slightly. Note: RNA path is changed to "use_cast_shadows" as well. The older path "use_cast_buffer_shadows" still can be used as its alias, but it will be removed after updating some addons. 2013-03-23A major code update for making the DNA file specification of Freestyle settingsTamito Kajiyama
and RNA for it independent of the build flag for enabling Freestyle. Suggested by Sergey Sharybin through a code review of the branch. * Many #ifdef WITH_FREESTYLE blocks were removed to always have Freestyle-specific DNA file specification and RNA for it built in Blender. This will allow Freestyle setting survive even when a non-Freestyle build is used for loading and saving files. It is noted that operations are still conditionally built through #ifdef WITH_FREESTYLE blocks. * To this end, new blenkernel files BKE_freestyle.h and intern/freestyle.c have been added. All API functions in FRS_freestyle_config.h as well as some of those in FRS_freestyle.h were moved to the new files. Now the relocated API functions have BKE_ prefix instead of FRS_.
