2014-11-17Support dynamic loading of SDL librariesSergey Sharybin
This is mainly to address old issue when one need to have SDL library installed in order to use our official builds. Some hip distros already installs SDL, but it's not quite the same across all the variety of the distros. We also now switching to SDL-2.0, most of the distros have it in repositories already, so it shouldn't be huge deal to install it if needed. 2014-10-04Cycles: Add support for debug passesSergey Sharybin
Currently only summed number of traversal steps and intersections used by the camera ray intersection pass is implemented, but in the future we will support more debug passes which would help checking what things makes the scene slow. Example of such extra passes could be number of bounces, time spent on the shader tree evaluation and so. Implementation from the Cycles side is pretty much straightforward, could only mention here that it's a build-time option disabled by default. From the blender side it's implemented as a PASS_DEBUG with several subtypes possible. This way we don't need to create an extra DNA pass type for each of the debug passes, saving us a bits. 2014-10-02Freestyle: View map caching.Tamito Kajiyama
New render layer option named "View map cache" is added to reuse a previously computed view map for subsequent rendering. The cache is automatically updated when the mesh geometry of the input 3D scene has been changed. This functionality offers a major performance boost for Freestyle animation rendering when camera-space mesh geometry is static, as well as for repeated still renders with updates of line stylization options. Although the "View map cache" toggle is a render layer option, the cache memory is shared by all render layers and scenes. This means that if Freestyle is used for two or more render layers (possibly in different scenes through the compositor), then the cached view map for one render layer is replaced by a new view map for another render layer and hence no performance gain is expected.

2013-12-26Threaded object update and EvaluationContextSergey Sharybin
Summary: Made objects update happening from multiple threads. It is a task-based scheduling system which uses current dependency graph for spawning new tasks. This means threading happens on object level, but the system is flexible enough for higher granularity. Technical details: - Uses task scheduler which was recently committed to trunk (that one which Brecht ported from Cycles). - Added two utility functions to dependency graph: * DAG_threaded_update_begin, which is called to initialize threaded objects update. It will also schedule root DAG node to the queue, hence starting evaluation process. Initialization will calculate how much parents are to be evaluation before current DAG node can be scheduled. This value is used by task threads for faster detecting which nodes might be scheduled. * DAG_threaded_update_handle_node_updated which is called from task thread function when node was fully handled. This function decreases num_pending_parents of node children and schedules children with zero valency. As it might have become clear, task thread receives DAG nodes and decides which callback to call for it. Currently only BKE_object_handle_update is called for object nodes. In the future it'll call node->callback() from Ali's new DAG. - This required adding some workarounds to the render pipeline. Mainly to stop using get_object_dm() from modifiers' apply callback. Such a call was only a workaround for dependency graph glitch when rendering scene with, say, boolean modifiers before displaying this scene. Such change moves workaround from one place to another, so overall hackentropy remains the same. - Added paradigm of EvaluaitonContext. Currently it's more like just a more reliable replacement for G.is_rendering which fails in some circumstances. Future idea of this context is to also store all the local data needed for objects evaluation such as local time, Copy-on-Write data and so. There're two types of EvaluationContext: * Context used for viewport updated and owned by Main. In the future this context might be easily moved to Window or Screen to allo per-window/per-screen local time. * Context used by render engines to evaluate objects for render purposes. Render engine is an owner of this context. This context is passed to all object update routines. 2013-12-17'Transform' Python Function for armature, curve and lattice.Campbell Barton
patch by Paolo Acampora with some edits.
2013-10-13cmake/openimageio - partially reverting #60692Dalai Felinto
We now have openimageio building when cycles builds or when it's manually set to build. (I reverted the _IMAGE_ in the define name because I think the closer the cmake flags match the defines in the software the better, and there is no reason to rename all the existent WITH_OPENIMAGEIO references in CMakeLists.txt - which would be the alternative)
2013-10-12Fix build scripts related to PSD support. Both CMake and SCons builds were ↵Irie Shinsuke

2013-10-11adding WITH_IMAGE_OPENIMAGEIO and removing the PSD build optionDalai Felinto
As per Brecht van Lommel's suggestion.
2013-10-10Lock-free memory allocatorSergey Sharybin
Release builds will now use lock-free allocator by default without any internal locks happening. MemHead is also reduces to as minimum as it's possible. It still need to be size_t stored in a MemHead in order to make us keep track on memory we're requesting from the system, not memory which system is allocating. This is probably also faster than using a malloc's usable size function. Lock-free guarded allocator will say you whether all the blocks were freed, but wouldn't give you a list of unfreed blocks list. To have such a list use a --debug or --debug-memory command line arguments. Debug builds does have the same behavior as release builds. This is so tools like valgrind are not screwed up by guarded allocator as they're currently are. -- svn merge -r59941:59942 -r60072:60073 -r60093:60094 \ -r60095:60096 ^/branches/soc-2013-depsgraph_mt
2013-10-09Photoshop PSD supportDalai Felinto
We now support the combined layer of Photoshop files (stored as layer 0 in the file). This way users can keep their files as multilayer PSD and Blender always handle them as flat images. For perfect alpha this requires an OpenImageIO update: https://github.com/OpenImageIO/oiio/commit/342cc2633ff590a3bb278481c61ae798c7148361 Photoshop sample files: https://github.com/OpenImageIO/oiio-images Brecht has some pending fixes to push for OIIO as well, so we may as well wait to update our libraries. What works: =========== * 8bit images (with or without alpha) * 16bits images (alpha discarded) * Photoshop files saved with 'Maximum Compatibility' * Cycles, Blender internal, BGE (and player) Known limitations (due to OIIO dependency): ========================= * Images with less than 4 channels show a wrong thumbnail (bug may be in OIIO) * Packed images are not supported * We do not write PSD files. Note: old Blenders have support for PSD via Quicktime library. But due to license issues this was discontinued. Many thanks for Brecht van Lommel for reviewing the patch, suggesting multiple improvements and to help solving the alpha issue.

2013-08-19Speedup for guarded allocatorSergey Sharybin
- Re-arrange locks, so no actual memory allocation (which is relatively slow) happens from inside the lock. operation system will take care of locks which might be needed there on it's own. - Use spin lock instead of mutex, since it's just list operations happens from inside lock, no need in mutex here. - Use atomic operations for memory in use and total used blocks counters. This makes guarded allocator almost the same speed as non-guarded one in files from Tube project. There're still MemHead/MemTail overhead which might be bad for CPU cache utilization

2013-03-23A major code update for making the DNA file specification of Freestyle settingsTamito Kajiyama
and RNA for it independent of the build flag for enabling Freestyle. Suggested by Sergey Sharybin through a code review of the branch. * Many #ifdef WITH_FREESTYLE blocks were removed to always have Freestyle-specific DNA file specification and RNA for it built in Blender. This will allow Freestyle setting survive even when a non-Freestyle build is used for loading and saving files. It is noted that operations are still conditionally built through #ifdef WITH_FREESTYLE blocks. * To this end, new blenkernel files BKE_freestyle.h and intern/freestyle.c have been added. All API functions in FRS_freestyle_config.h as well as some of those in FRS_freestyle.h were moved to the new files. Now the relocated API functions have BKE_ prefix instead of FRS_.

2013-03-18Merge of the PyNodes branch (aka "custom nodes") into trunk.Lukas Toenne
PyNodes opens up the node system in Blender to scripters and adds a number of UI-level improvements. === Dynamic node type registration === Node types can now be added at runtime, using the RNA registration mechanism from python. This enables addons such as render engines to create a complete user interface with nodes. Examples of how such nodes can be defined can be found in my personal wiki docs atm [1] and as a script template in release/scripts/templates_py/custom_nodes.py [2]. === Node group improvements === Each node editor now has a tree history of edited node groups, which allows opening and editing nested node groups. The node editor also supports pinning now, so that different spaces can be used to edit different node groups simultaneously. For more ramblings and rationale see (really old) blog post on code.blender.org [3]. The interface of node groups has been overhauled. Sockets of a node group are no longer displayed in columns on either side, but instead special input/output nodes are used to mirror group sockets inside a node tree. This solves the problem of long node lines in groups and allows more adaptable node layout. Internal sockets can be exposed from a group by either connecting to the extension sockets in input/output nodes (shown as empty circle) or by adding sockets from the node property bar in the "Interface" panel. Further details such as the socket name can also be changed there. 2013-01-23rigidbody: Add DNA/RNA/BKE infrastructure for the rigid body simSergej Reich
This is just the basic structure, the simulation isn't hooked up yet. Scenes get a pointer to a rigid body world that holds rigid body objects. Objects get a pointer to a rigdid body object. Both rigid body world and objects aren't used directly in the simulation and only hold information to create the actual physics objects. Physics objects are created when rigid body objects are validated. In order to keep blender and bullet objects in sync care has to be taken to either call appropriate set functions or flag objects for validation. Part of GSoC 2010 and 2012.
