Brecht authored this commit, but he gave me the honours to actually
do it. Here it goes; Blender Internal. Bye bye, you did great!
* Point density, voxel data, ocean, environment map textures were removed,
as these only worked within BI rendering. Note that the ocean modifier
and the Cycles point density shader node continue to work.
* Dynamic paint using material shading was removed, as this only worked
with BI. If we ever wanted to support this again probably it should go
through the baking API.
* GPU shader export through the Python API was removed. This only worked
for the old BI GLSL shaders, which no longer exists. Doing something
similar for Eevee would be significantly more complicated because it
uses a lot of multiplass rendering and logic outside the shader, it's
probably impractical.
* Collada material import / export code is mostly gone, as it only worked
for BI materials. We need to add Cycles / Eevee material support at some
point.
* The mesh noise operator was removed since it only worked with BI
material texture slots. A displacement modifier can be used instead.
* The delete texture paint slot operator was removed since it only worked
for BI material texture slots. Could be added back with node support.
* Not all legacy viewport features are supported in the new viewport, but
their code was removed. If we need to bring anything back we can look at
older git revisions.
* There is some legacy viewport code that I could not remove yet, and some
that I probably missed.
* Shader node execution code was left mostly intact, even though it is not
used anywhere now. We may eventually use this to replace the texture
nodes with Cycles / Eevee shader nodes.
* The Cycles Bake panel now includes settings for baking multires normal
and displacement maps. The underlying code needs to be merged properly,
and we plan to add back support for multires AO baking and add support
to Cycles baking for features like vertex color, displacement, and other
missing baking features.
* This commit removes DNA and the Python API for BI material, lamp, world
and scene settings. This breaks a lot of addons.
* There is more DNA that can be removed or renamed, where Cycles or Eevee
are reusing some old BI properties but the names are not really correct
anymore.
* Texture slots for materials, lamps and world were removed. They remain
for brushes, particles and freestyle linestyles.
* 'BLENDER_RENDER' remains in the COMPAT_ENGINES of UI panels. Cycles and
other renderers use this to find all panels to show, minus a few panels
that they have their own replacement for.

The work is mainly from Lukas Toenne, with some modifications from myself.
Includes following obvious changes:
- Particle system selection is now name-based, with lookup menu.
- Lots of new options to control varieties.
Changes comparing to the Gooseberry branch:
- Default values and versioning code ensures same behavior as the
old modifier.
- Custom data layers are coming from vertex color, the modifier
does not create arbitrary layers now. The hope is to keep data
more manageable, and maybe make it easier to select in the shader
later on.
This means, values are quantized to 256 values, but it should be
enough to get varieties in practice.

We've got quite comprehensive BMesh based implementation, which is way easier
for maintenance than abandoned Carve library.
After all the time BMesh implementation was working on the same level of
limitations about manifold meshes and touching edges than Carve. Is better
to focus on maintaining one boolean implementation now.

Patch from Richard Erhardt, with some additions & modifications.
Changes bevel profile shape parameter so that can get arbitrarily
near square profile as parameter -> 1.
Adds code to make profile=0 case work, at least for cube corners,
so changed hard min of profile parameter to 0 from 0.15.

You can now override loc/rot/scale of objects and posebones.
Also added a basic operator to make an override of active linked object,
but this is very limited/wip/testing feature (you have to manually override
object and its armature, and relink to proper local overrides
yourself...). Final 'make proxy killer' will be much more automated of
course.

Useful for baking, so UV's can be moved outside the image
and not used to bake pixels (but still used for display).

Maximum allowed UI float precision value is 6 (which means 7 digits).
Will change code checking on that in next commit.

Vertices on the axis can be optionally merged,
nice for creating objects which close at the end-points.

- MTexPoly structure & layer type.
- The 'Mesh.uv_textures' layers.
- DerivedMesh TexFace drawing.
- Scripts & UI.

TexFace complicates the now more popular shading pipeline by having
per-face images, see: T51382 for details.
To keep the ability to select a per-material edit-image
(used with UV-mapping workflow), the material now stores an image
which will be set when changing images in edit-mode.
This is used as a bake-target when not using Cycles too.

The mirror modifier now has two fields that specify a -1 to 1 offset for
the U and V axes when mirroring their coordinates.

surface, thus allowing things such as cloth simulation proxies.

constraints.
This avoids traversing the archive everytime object data is needed and
gives an overall consistent ~2x speedup here with files containing
between 136 and 500 Alembic objects. Also this somewhat nicely de-
duplicates code between data creation (upon import) and data streaming
(modifiers and constraints).
The only worying part is what happens when a CacheFile is deleted and/or
has its path changed. For now, we traverse the whole scene and for each
object using the CacheFile we free the pointer and NULL-ify it (see
BKE_cachefile_clean), but at some point this should be re-considered and
make use of the dependency graph.

Never call function that might recompute a DM in an RNA itemf callback (or any UI-related func in general)!
There was an XXX comment asking if this was OK - well, no, it was not. :P
Could be ported back to some 2.78 flavour should we need it.

All in all, this patch adds an Alembic importer, an Alembic exporter,
and a new CacheFile data block which, for now, wraps around an Alembic
archive. This data block is made available through a new modifier ("Mesh
Sequence Cache") as well as a new constraint ("Transform Cache") to
somewhat properly support respectively geometric and transformation data
streaming from alembic caches.
A more in-depth documentation is to be found on the wiki, as well as a
guide to compile alembic: https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/

Many thanks to everyone involved in this little project, and huge shout
out to "cgstrive" for the thorough testings with Maya, 3ds Max, Houdini
and Realflow as well as @fjuhec, @jensverwiebe and @jasperge for the
custom builds and compile fixes.

There are still issues with overlapping geometry,
however some of the issues reported are are causing problems,
or fail entirely with Carve too.

|
Support applying decimate to the mesh selection.
|

Needed so scripts don't need to use operators to adjust hook modifiers.
|

Allows to avoid generating flipped faces when using extreme normal modifications.

Previously you could only select mirror on X axis,
now support mirroring on multiple axis as well as more than one
(for mesh and lattice data).

This uses a bmesh-intersection, BLI_kdtree and watertight intersections to perform boolean operations.
For now keep both BMesh and Carve booleans usable at once for testing & bug reports,
however we plan to phase out Carve by next release.
