2020-09-02Make rigidbody simulation handle animated objects gracefullySebastian Parborg
The animated objects was not updated for each internal substep for the rigidbody sim. This would lead to unstable simulations or very annoying clipping artifacts. Updated the code to use explicit substeps and tie it to the scene frame rate. Fix T47402: Properly updating the animated objects fixes the reported issue. 2020-08-10Fix T77685: object transforms from rigid body simulation are ignored by ↵Jacques Lucke
modifiers This does not fix all the cases in the bug report, because there are multiple different issues. Only the first two are fixed. The third is probably a known issue for now. Before this patch, the rigid body simulation was always done after modifiers are evaluated, because to perform the simulation, the final geometry of the object was required. However, the geometry is not required in all cases, depending on the selected collisions shape. This patch changes it so that when the simulation does not need the evaluated geometry, the simulation will be done before the modifiers are evaluated. This gives the modifiers access to the simulated positions. When the rigid body simulation does depend on the evaluated geometry, it will still be performed after modifiers are evaluated. The simulation will be performed after modifiers are evaluated, iff the collision shape is "Convex Hull" or "Mesh" and the source is set to "Deform" or "Final". 2020-07-30Add compound shape for rigid body simulationDavid Vogel
This patch adds a new compound shape entry to the shape selection dropdown. It also corrects wrong inertia calculation for convex hulls, that resulted in strange behavior for small objects. The compound shape take the collision shapes from its object children and combines them. This makes it possible to create concave shapes from primitive shapes. Using this instead of the mesh collision shape is often many times faster. Reviewed By: Sergey, Sebastian Parborg Differential Revision: http://developer.blender.org/D5797

2019-08-23RNA: Cleanup PointerRNA structJacques Lucke
The old layout of `PointerRNA` was confusing for historic reasons: ``` typedef struct PointerRNA { struct { void *data; } id; struct StructRNA *type; void *data; } PointerRNA; ``` This patch updates it to: ``` typedef struct PointerRNA { struct ID *owner_id; struct StructRNA *type; void *data; } PointerRNA; ``` Throughout the code base `id.data` was replaced with `owner_id`. Furthermore, many explicit pointer type casts were added which were implicit before. Some type casts to `ID *` were removed. 2018-12-10Proper fix for rigidbody collections's objects missing rb data.Bastien Montagne
We cannot let those data be generated on-the-fly in RBW evaluation anymore, since those would be added to CoW eval object and never ported back to orig objects. We *could* get orig objects in eval code, of course, but as in constratints, this is not really threadsafe and future proof, depsgraph evaluation should really write back to orig data as little as possible. So instead, add code to ensure required data is generated to objects when their collection is added to rigidbody world. Note that we *may* want to clean that up once collection is no more used by RB? On the other hand, people might want to keep those data around to be able to switch between different setups easily... So think it's OK to keep them at least for now.

2018-07-24Fix T55958: allow the user to select between spring and spring2.Alexander Gavrilov

2018-06-28Prevent copying too much in the Rigid Body simulationSybren A. Stüvel
To prevent the pointcache from being copied-on-write too (and requiring copying back), the cache is now shared between the original and evaluated scenes. Reading from the cache is always allowed; running the sim and writing to the cache is only allowed when the depsgraph is active. Some pointers have moved from RigidBodyWorld (RBO) to RigidBodyWorldShared (RBOS). writefile.c copies some pointers back from RBOS to RBO so that the file can still be opened on older Blenders without crashing on a segfault. The RigidBodyWorldShared struct is written to the blend file, because it refers to the PointCache ID block. The RigidObjectShared struct is runtime-only, and thus not saved to the blend file. An RNA getter-function is used to hide the new 'shared' pointer. As a result the Python API hasn't changed. Reviewed by: campbellbarton Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D3508

2018-05-18Collections and groups unificationBrecht Van Lommel
OVERVIEW * In 2.7 terminology, all layers and groups are now collection datablocks. * These collections are nestable, linkable, instanceable, overrideable, .. which opens up new ways to set up scenes and link + override data. * Viewport/render visibility and selectability are now a part of the collection and shared across all view layers and linkable. * View layers define which subset of the scene collection hierarchy is excluded for each. For many workflows one view layer can be used, these are more of an advanced feature now. OUTLINER * The outliner now has a "View Layer" display mode instead of "Collections", which can display the collections and/or objects in the view layer. * In this display mode, collections can be excluded with the right click menu. These will then be greyed out and their objects will be excluded. * To view collections not linked to any scene, the "Blender File" display mode can be used, with the new filtering option to just see Colleciton datablocks. * The outliner right click menus for collections and objects were reorganized. * Drag and drop still needs to be improved. Like before, dragging the icon or text gives different results, we'll unify this later. LINKING AND OVERRIDES * Collections can now be linked into the scene without creating an instance, with the link/append operator or from the collections view in the outliner. * Collections can get static overrides with the right click menu in the outliner, but this is rather unreliable and not clearly communicated at the moment. * We still need to improve the make override operator to turn collection instances into collections with overrides directly in the scene. PERFORMANCE * We tried to make performance not worse than before and improve it in some cases. The main thing that's still a bit slower is multiple scenes, we have to change the layer syncing to only updated affected scenes. * Collections keep a list of their parent collections for faster incremental updates in syncing and caching. * View layer bases are now in a object -> base hash to avoid quadratic time lookups internally and in API functions like visible_get(). VERSIONING * Compatibility with 2.7 files should be improved due to the new visibility controls. Of course users may not want to set up their scenes differently now to avoid having separate layers and groups. * Compatibility with 2.8 is mostly there, and was tested on Eevee demo and Hero files. There's a few things which are know to be not quite compatible, like nested layer collections inside groups. * The versioning code for 2.8 files is quite complicated, and isolated behind #ifdef so it can be removed at the end of the release cycle. KNOWN ISSUES * The G-key group operators in the 3D viewport were left mostly as is, they need to be modified still to fit better. * Same for the groups panel in the object properties. This needs to be updated still, or perhaps replaced by something better. * Collections must all have a unique name. Less restrictive namespacing is to be done later, we'll have to see how important this is as all objects within the collections must also have a unique name anyway. * Full scene copy and delete scene are exactly doing the right thing yet. 2018-03-18Fix ugly recursive pattern in RNA PointCache data layout.Bastien Montagne
PointCache was having a collection of items of PointCache type, having a collection of items of PointCache type, having... Nuff said. For now, chose the 'ugly' way to fix it, that is, the one that changes nothing to API and scripts using it: we define another 'PointCacheItem' RNA type for items of our point cache collection, which has exact same interface as PointCache except for the collection. This is doomed to be rewritten at some point anyway, not worth spending time trying to define a really correct data layout for now.

2016-12-12Refactor RNA property: split flags in property flags, parameter flags, and ↵Bastien Montagne
internal flags. This gives us 9 flags available again for properties (we had none anymore), and also makes things slightly cleaner. To simplify (and make more clear the differences between mere properties and function parameters), also added RNA_def_parameter_flags function (and its clear counterpart), to be used instead of RNA_def_property_flag for function parameters. This patch is also a big cleanup (some RNA function definitions were still using 'prop' PropertyRNA pointer, etc.). And yes, am aware this will be annoying for all branches, but we really need to get new flags available for properties (will need at least one for override, etc.).
