2021-07-03Cleanup: consistent use of tags: NOTE/TODO/FIXME/XXXCampbell Barton
Also use doxy style function reference `#` prefix chars when referencing identifiers.
2021-06-28Fix name of UI emboss RNA enum itemHans Goudey
This was a stupid mistake in my original commit that added this item. While this is an API breakage, the name is simply wrong, and it is only 6 months old, and slightly niche. Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D11701
2021-06-03Cleanup: use ascii characters instead of unicode where possibleCampbell Barton
Follow own code style docs.
2021-03-02UI: Clean up labels and descriptions: "Draw" to "Display"William Reynish
In Blender, we used to use the term 'draw' to refer to information displayed to the user. For version 2.80, it was decided to change these instances to 'display' instead. This was to avoid the ambiguity between end-user drawing tools and display options. From the Oxford English Dictionary: - Draw: produce (a picture or diagram) by making lines and marks on paper with a pencil, pen, etc. - Display: show (data or an image) on a computer, television, or other screen. Therefore, we should use draw when referring to drawing tools for making marks, but use display when referring to information shown/displayed to the user. From a user POV, the computer displays certain information, whereas the user draws a mark. Apparently this change was not implemented consistently, so this patch changes all remaining relevant instances of "draw". Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D10551
2021-02-16UI: Add support for bl_description for panelsAaron Carlisle
This commit adds support for `bl_description` and python docstrings for panels. This is useful for pop-over panel types so they can have a label and description. This commit also includes an example use case. Reviewed By: campbellbarton Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D10429
2021-02-05Cleanup: correct spelling in commentsCampbell Barton
2020-12-28Cleanup: UI messages fixes.Bastien Montagne
2020-12-24UI: Cleanup spelling of compound wordsYevgeny Makarov
Approximately 138 changes in the spelling of compound words and proper names like "Light Probe", "Shrink/Fatten", "Face Map". In many cases, hyphens were used where they aren't correct, like "re-fit". Other common changes include: - "Datablock" -> "data-block" - "Floating point" -> "floating-point" - "Ngons" -> "n-gons" These changes help give the language used in the interface a consistent, more professional feel. Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D9923
2020-12-24Cleanup: Fix capitalization in various UI stringsYevgeny Makarov
Approximately 195 changes of capitalization to conform to MLA title style. UI labels and property names should use MLA title case, while descriptions should be capitalized like regular prose, generally with only the start of a sentence capitalized. Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D9922
2020-12-19Fix T83868: Button animation states no longer visible without embossHans Goudey
This bug was caused by making it so that non-embossed modifier icon buttons could become an operator button and retain their red highlight for disabled modifiers. The icon button needs emboss turned off, but in earlier versions of Blender, `UI_EMBOSS_NONE` would be overridden by animation or red alert states. Instead of abusing "NONE" to mean "none unless there is animation or red alert", this commit adds a new emboss flag for that situation, `UI_EMBOSS_NONE_OR_STATUS`, which uses no emboss unless there is an animation state, or another status. There are only a few situations where this is necessary, so the change isn't too big. Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D9902
2020-11-13Cleanup: Make panel type flag names more clearHans Goudey
The overlap with the `Panel` flags that start with "PNL" was quite confusing because wasn't clear which enum a flag was from. The new names are a bit longer, but the clarity is worth it.
2020-11-13Cleanup: Move PanelType flag from DNA to BKE headerHans Goudey
Since this flag isn't saved in files and PanelType itself is defined in BKE, the flag makes more sense there.
2020-10-21 Cleanup: Improve function and variable nameHans Goudey
"pt" is unecessarily cryptic, and the funciton name wasn't very clear.
2020-10-21Fix panel type use after free when reloading scriptsHans Goudey
In order to prevent the panel code from using the type after it is freed, the field needs to be set to NULL. This needs to be done recursively for subpanels as well as top-level panels.
2020-10-03Cleanup: Remove/replace C standard library assert() and header usagesJulian Eisel
We have our own assert implementation, `BLI_assert()` that is prefered over the C standard library one. Its output is more consistent across compilers and makes termination on assert failure optional (through `WITH_ASSERT_ABORT`). In many places we'd include the C library header without ever accessing it.
2020-09-02UI: Use instanced panel custom data instead of list indexHans Goudey
For modifier shortcuts we added a "custom_data" field to panels. This commit uses the same system for accessing the list data that corresponds to each panel. This way the context is only used once and the modifier for each panel can be accessed more easily later. This ends up being mostly a cleanup commit with a few small changes in interface_panel.c. The large changes in the UI functions are due to the fact that the panel custom data is now passed around as a single pointer instead of being created again for every panel. The list_index variable in Panel.runtime is removed as it's now unnecessary. Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D8559
2020-06-15Fix T77541: Unregistering DATA_PT_modifiers doesn't remove modifier panelsHans Goudey
This is a pretty quick fix; the solution is just removing all the instanced panels whena panel is unregistered. This also necessitates adding the option to call UI_panels_free_instanced with NULL context. Differential Revision: https://developer.blender.org/D7977

2020-05-26UI: List Panel SystemHans Goudey
This implements a general system to implement drag and drop, subpanels, and UI animation for the stack UIs in Blender. There are NO functional changes in this patch, but it makes it relatively trivial to implement these features for stacks. The biggest complication to using panels to implement the UI for lists is that there can be multiple modifiers of the same type. Currently there is an assumed 1 to 1 relationship between every panel and its type, but there can be multiple list items of the same type, so we have to break this relationship. The mapping between panels and their data is stored with an index in the panel's runtime struct. To make use the system for a list like modifiers, four components must be added: 1. A panel type defined and registered for each list data type, with a known mapping between list data types and panel idnames. 1. A function called by interface code to build the add the panel layouts with the provided helper functions. - UI_panel_list_matches_data will check if the panel list needs to be rebuilt. - UI_panels_free_instanced will remove the existing list panels - UI_panel_add_instanced adds a list panel of a given type. 3. An expand flag for the list data and implementations of get_list_data_expand_flag and set_list_data_expand_flag. 4. For reordering, the panel type's reorder callback. This is called when the instanced panels are drag-dropped. This requires implementing a "move to index" operator for the list data. 2020-04-03Cleanup: Rename ScrArea variables from sa to areaJulian Eisel
Follow up of b2ee1770d4c3 and 10c2254d412d, part of T74432. Now the area and region naming conventions should be less confusing. Mostly a careful batch rename but had to do few smaller fixes. Also ran clang-format on affected files.

2019-05-19UI: add Panel.bl_order property to control order of panels for add-onsBrecht Van Lommel
This fixes poor Cycles panel ordering, with Freestyle and Custom Properties appearing at the top. For most cases order of registration is still the easiest way to control order and it's recommended to keep using that. This is mainly to solve a few cases where we want a few built-in panels to appear below add-on panels.

2019-03-27UI: support an 'active default' button for pop-upsCampbell Barton

2019-02-03Cleanup: trailing commasCampbell Barton

2019-02-01Cleanup: remove redundant, invalid info from headersCampbell Barton
BF-admins agree to remove header information that isn't useful, to reduce noise. - BEGIN/END license blocks Developers should add non license comments as separate comment blocks. No need for separator text. - Contributors This is often invalid, outdated or misleading especially when splitting files. It's more useful to git-blame to find out who has developed the code. See P901 for script to perform these edits.
2019-01-09Revert/Redo ugly rBd12b3767f81d commit (i.e. add locked sorting option to ↵Bastien Montagne

Too many things done wrong in original rBd12b3767f81d to list them all here, hopefully nothing bad sneaked in again this time :| Also cleaned up a little the 'sort by name', even though (since we only have two options by default, sort by index and by name) we can abuse it as a binary option for now, this is not a bitflag...

2018-10-11Add new parameter to reverse UIList itemsAntonioya
Now, it was possible to invert the order of the UIlist using the filter, but it was impossible to know if the list was inverted or not. The problem with this is that any other element depending of this value could not be adjusted. See https://devtalk.blender.org/t/how-to-access-uilist-properties/2268 The new parameter allows to set the reverse order by default. When the list is set as reverse, it cannot be inverted again, so the invert button is removed of the filter. This change is needed to fix a requested feature for Grease Pencil (T56985) and because a lot of 2D softwares use the drawing layers in the inverse order used in Blender.
