Currently, only Lightgroups that exist in the current view layer can be
selected from object or world properties.
The internal UI code already has support for search fields that accept
unknown input, so I just added that to the API and use it for lightgroups.
When a lightgroup is entered that does not exist in the current view layer
(e.g. because it's completely new, because the view layer was switched or
because it was deleted earlier), a new button next to it becomes active and
adds it to the view layer when pressed.

Override layers are a standard feature of Alembic, where archives can override
data from other archives, provided that the hierarchies match.
This is useful for modifying a UV map, updating an animation, or even creating
some sort of LOD system where low resolution meshes are swapped by high resolution
versions.
It is possible to add UV maps and vertex colors using this system, however, they
will only appear in the spreadsheet editor when viewing evaluated data, as the UV
map and Vertex color UI only show data present on the original mesh.
Implementation wise, this adds a `CacheFileLayer` data structure to the `CacheFile`
DNA, as well as some operators and UI to present and manage the layers. For both
the Alembic importer and the Cycles procedural, the main change is creating an
archive from a list of filepaths, instead of a single one.
After importing the base file through the regular import operator, layers can be added
to or removed from the `CacheFile` via the UI list under the `Override Layers` panel
located in the Mesh Sequence Cache modifier. Layers can also be moved around or
hidden.

This adds interface panels to organize the Cache File UI parameters for
modifiers and constraints into related components: velocity, time, and
render procedural.
Properties relating to the three aforementioned components are separated
from `uiTemplateCacheFile` into their own functions (e.g.
`uiTemplateCacheFileVelocity` for the velocity one), which are in turn
called from the specific panel creation routines of the modifiers and
constraints (for constraints, the functions are exposed to the RNA).
`uiTemplateCacheFile` now only shows the properties for the file path,
and in the case of constraints, the scale property.
The properties that are only defined per modifier (like the velocity
scale), are shown in the proper modifier layout panel if applicable.

The asset view UI template is a mini-version of the Asset Browser that
can be placed in regular layouts, regions or popups. At this point it's
made specifically for placement in vertical layouts, it can be made more
flexible in the future.
Generally the way this is implemented will likely change a lot still as
the asset system evolves.
The Pose Library add-on will use the asset view to display pose
libraries in the 3D View sidebar.
References:
* https://developer.blender.org/T86139
* https://code.blender.org/2021/06/asset-browser-project-update/#what-are-we-building
* https://code.blender.org/2021/05/pose-library-v2-0/#use-from-3d-viewport
Notes:
* Important limitation: Due to the early & WIP implementation of the
asset list, all asset views showing the same library will show the
same assets. That is despite the ID type filter option the template
provides. The first asset view created will determine what's visible.
Of course this should be made to work eventually.
* The template supports passing an activate and a drag operator name.
The former is called when an asset is clicked on (e.g. to apply the
asset) the latter when dragging (e.g. to .blend a pose asset). If no
drag operator is set, regular asset drag & drop will be executed.
* The template returns the properties for both operators (see example
below).
* The argument list for using the template is quite long, but we can't
avoid that currently. The UI list design requires that we pass a
number of RNA or custom properties to work with, that for the Pose
Libraries should be registered at the Pose Library add-on level, not
in core Blender.
* Idea is that Python scripts or add-ons that want to use the asset view
can register custom properties, to hold data like the list of assets,
and the active asset index. Maybe that will change in future and we
can manage these internally.
As an example, the pose library add-on uses it like this:
```
activate_op_props, drag_op_props = layout.template_asset_view(
"pose_assets",
workspace,
"active_asset_library",
wm,
"pose_assets",
workspace,
"active_pose_asset_index",
filter_id_types={"filter_action"},
activate_operator="poselib.apply_pose_asset",
drag_operator="poselib.blend_pose_asset",
)
drag_op_props.release_confirm = True
drag_op_props.flipped = wm.poselib_flipped
activate_op_props.flipped = wm.poselib_flipped
```

This is more of a first-pass refactor for the UI list template. More
improvements could be done, but that's better done separately. Main
purpose of this is to make the UI list code more manageable and ready
for the asset view template.
No functional changes for users.
* Split the huge template function into more manageable functions, with
clear names and a few structs with high coherency.
* Move runtime data management to the template code, with a free
callback called from BKE. This is UI data and should be managed at
that level.
* Replace boolean arguments with bit-flags (easily extendable and more
readable from the caller).
* Allow passing custom-data to the UI list for callbacks to access.
* Make list grip button for resizing optional.
* Put logic for generating the internal UI list identifier (stored in
.blends) into function. This is a quite important bit and a later
commit adds a related function. Good to have a clear API for this.
* Improve naming, comments, etc.
As part of further cleanups I'd like to move this to an own file.

`UILayout.operator_menu_enum()` now returns the operator properties, just like
`UILayout.operator()`. This makes it possible to set options for the operator
displayed in the menu. In C it can be done through the new
`uiItemMenuEnumFullO()` or `uiItemMenuEnumFullO_ptr()`.
It's reasonable to have this, probably just a small thing never bothered to
add. D10912 could use it, the following comment can be addressed now too:

addition of that flag, with the added option to completely disable
the status emboss with `UI_EMBOSS_NONE`.

Partially reverts 2250b5cefee7.
Removing the user count and fake user count icons was controversial (which was
expected) and there are a few further changes needed, that won't make it in
time for the release, see D9946.
While there is a design to bring back the user count and fake user indicators,
a new design idea was proposed that the UI team wants to follow. This came too
late for the 2.92 release, the new design is targeted at the 2.93 release now.
Meanwhile, UI team decision was to simply revert the design changes.
The new design is being worked on in https://developer.blender.org/T84669.
Note that this commit does not revert some internal changes done in
2250b5cefee7. Namely the introduction of `ed_util_ops.c` and data-block
operators in there. These will still be needed in the new design.
|
|
The previous design is rather old and has a couple of problems:
* Scalability: The current solution of adding little icon buttons next to the
data-block name field doesn't scale well. It only works if there's a small
number of operations. We need to be able to place more items there for better
data-block management. Especially with the introduction of library overrides.
* Discoverability: It's not obvious what some of the icons do. They appear and
disappear, but it's not obvious why some are available at times and others
not.
* Unclear Status: Currently their library status (linked, indirectly linked,
broken link, library override) isn't really clear.
* Unusual behavior: Some of the icon buttons allow Shift or Ctrl clicking to
invoke alternative behaviors. This is not a usual pattern in Blender.
This patch does the following changes:
* Adds a menu to the right of the name button to access all kinds of operations
(create, delete, unlink, user management, library overrides, etc).
* Make good use of the "disabled hint" for tooltips, to explain why buttons are
disabled. The UI team wants to establish this as a good practise.
* Use superimposed icons for duplicate and unlink, rather than extra buttons
(uses less space, looks less distracting and is a nice + consistent design
language).
* Remove fake user and user count button, they are available from the menu now.
* Support tooltips for superimposed icons (committed mouse hover feedback to
master already).
* Slightly increase size of the name button - it was already a bit small
before, and the move from real buttons to superimposed icons reduces usable
space for the name itself.
* More clearly differentiate between duplicate and creating a new data-block.
The latter is only available in the menu.
* Display library status icon on the left (linked, missing library, overridden,
asset)
* Disables "Make Single User" button - in review we weren't sure if there are
good use-cases for it, so better to see if we can remove it.
Note that I do expect some aspects of this design to change still. I think some
changes are problematic, but others disagreed. I will open a feedback thread on
devtalk to see what others think.

This patch implements the list panel system D7490 for modifiers.
It also moves modifier drawing to a callback in ModifierTypeInfo
in line with the extensible architecture refactoring goal T75724.
This adds a PanelRegister callback and utilities for registering
panels and subpanels. It also adds the callbacks for expansion saving
and drag and drop reordering described in D7490.
These utilities, callbacks, and other common UI elements shared
between modifiers live in MOD_ui_common.c.
Because modifier buttons are now in panels, we can make use of
subpanels for organization. The UI layouts also use the single
column layout style consistently used elsewhere in Blender.
Additionally, the mode-setting buttons are aligned and ordered
consistently with the outliner.
However, the large number of UI changes in this patch may mean
that additional polishing is required in master.

Makes the following layout changes possible:
{F8473498} {F8473499} {F8473502}
The next commit will contain many layout changes to make good use of
these new possibilities. The result should be more consistent, easier to
read and should give a more organized impression. Additionally, it
should be possible to replace many sub-panels with compacter layouts.
Main changes:
* Checkboxes now respect the property split layouts
* Add support for row and column headers (i.e.
`uiLayout.column(heading="Foo")`, `uiLayout.row(heading="Bar")`). If the
first property added to this layout doesn't insert anything into the label
split column, the heading is inserted there. Otherwise, it's inserted as own
item.
* Add support for manually inserting decorators for an existing item
(`uiLayout.prop_decorator()`). That way layout creators can manually insert
this, which was the only way I saw to support property split layouts with a
checkbox before the actual property. {F8471883}
* Autogenerated layouts for operator properties look bad if there are only
checkboxes (which only use half the region width). So before creating the
layout, we iterate over visible properties and disable split layout if all
are booleans. I think this is fine, if needed we could also add layout hints
to operators.
* `uiTemplateOperatorPropertyButs()` now handles macros itself, the caller
used to be responsible for this. Code that didn't handle these so far never
used macros I think, so this change should be invisible.
* Remove manual property split layout from autogenerated operator properties
layout.
* Padding of checkboxes is tweaked to make their label visually more connected
to the checkboxes.
* Support split layout for menus (should work for `uiLayout.menu()`,
`.operator_menu_enum()`, `.prop_menu_enum()`, maybe more)

- Some operators need options set to be usefully accessed.
- Shows key bindings to access menus

- Non operator actions such as check-boxes are also shown.
- Menu items can control execution context, using invoke or execute

Previously, if a boolean happened to use an icon there was no way
to make it display as a check-box from Python scripts.
The previous logic meant we ended up having to edit the RNA.
Since booleans with icons don't work well with the split-property layout
(now used for most of the interface).
Icons were being removed from RNA then added back using awkward Python
ternary expressions in the interface scripts.
The toggle argument now has an unset state (-1).
- toggle=True: no checkbox (emboss).
- toggle=False: always use a checkbox (no icon).
- toggle=(unset/-1): depends on the icon status, default as before.
Since toggle=False was default, this isn't used in existing UI logic.
