simulations. This commits implements OpenVDB as an extra cache format in the Point Cache system for smoke simulations. This mainly adds bpy.data.user_map() method, which goes over the whole Main database to build a mapping (dict) {ID: {users_of_that_ID}}. Very handy to check and debug ID usages, but could also be really valuable for py addons creating temporary scenes, or some exporters, etc. Note: current code in master's libquery misses some IDs (and reports some it should not, like nodetrees), this is fixed in id-remap but still needs serious review before going to master. This basically means that current bpy.data.user_map() **will not** report a complete and exhaustive state of dependencies between IDs. Should work OK in most cases though. Original work/idea comes from id-remap branch, was heavily reworked by @campbellbarton and myself for master. This commit mainly: * Exposes PreviewImage struct in RNA, including ways for user to set images data. * Adds a new kind of PreviewImage, using a file path and IMB_thumb to get image. * Adds a new kind of custom icon using PreviewImage, unrelated to ID previews system. * Adds a python API (utils.previews) to allow python scripts to access those custom previews/icons. Note that loading image from files' thumbnails is done when needed (deferred loading), not when defining the custom preview/icon. WARNING: for release addons who would want to use this, please keep it to a strict minimum, really needed level. We do not want our UI to explode under hundreds of different flashy icons! Adds bpy.app.sdl to expose SDL version information. When SDL is not available on a Linux system, certain Blender features are silently disabled (like joystick support in the BGE). This change is the first step towards making it more obvious why something isn't working. SDL information is exposed to Python via bpy.app.sdl, in the same way as OCIO and OIIO information is exposed. Generated system-info.txt contains SDL loading method (linked or dynamically loaded by Blender) and SDL version number. We now have openimageio building when cycles builds or when it's manually set to build. (I reverted the _IMAGE_ in the define name because I think the closer the cmake flags match the defines in the software the better, and there is no reason to rename all the existent WITH_OPENIMAGEIO references in CMakeLists.txt - which would be the alternative)

We now support the combined layer of Photoshop files (stored as layer 0 in the file). This way users can keep their files as multilayer PSD and Blender always handle them as flat images. For perfect alpha this requires an OpenImageIO update: https://github.com/OpenImageIO/oiio/commit/342cc2633ff590a3bb278481c61ae798c7148361 Photoshop sample files: https://github.com/OpenImageIO/oiio-images Brecht has some pending fixes to push for OIIO as well, so we may as well wait to update our libraries. What works: =========== * 8bit images (with or without alpha) * 16bits images (alpha discarded) * Photoshop files saved with 'Maximum Compatibility' * Cycles, Blender internal, BGE (and player) Known limitations (due to OIIO dependency): ========================= * Images with less than 4 channels show a wrong thumbnail (bug may be in OIIO) * Packed images are not supported * We do not write PSD files. Note: old Blenders have support for PSD via Quicktime library. But due to license issues this was discontinued. Many thanks for Brecht van Lommel for reviewing the patch, suggesting multiple improvements and to help solving the alpha issue.

This commit adds: * A new bpy.app.translations module giving some info about locales/translation stuff (current active locale, all locales currently known by blender, all translation contexts currently defined, etc.). * The ability for addons to feature translations, using the (un)register functions of above module. * Also cleans up "translate py string when storing into RNA prop" by removing "PROP_TRANSLATE" string's subtype, and adding a PROP_STRING_PY_TRANSLATE flag instead (this way it is no more exposed to python...). Addon translations work with py dictionaries: each addon features a dict {lang: {(context, message): translation, ...}, ...}, which is registered when the addon is enabled (and unregistered when disabled). Then, when a key (context, message) is not found in regular mo catalog, a cache dict for current locale is built from all registered addon translations, and key is searched in it. Note: currently addons writers have to do all the work by hand, will add something (probably extend "edit translation" addon) to automate messages extraction from addons soon(ish)! To get a look to expected behavior from addons, have a look at render_copy_settings/__init__.py and render_copy_settings/translations.py (rather stupid example currently, but...). Once we have a complete process, I'll also update relevant wiki pages.

The rendering device is now set in User Preferences > System, where you can choose between OpenCL/CUDA and devices. Per scene you can then still choose to use CPU or GPU rendering. Load balancing still needs to be improved, now it just splits the entire render in two, that will be done in a separate commit.

A fix of this issue is planned.

shader = gpu.export_shader(scene,material) Returns the GLSL shader that blender generates to produce the visual effect of material in scene for the purpose of reusing the shader in an external engine. This function is meant to be used in a material exporter so that the GLSL shader can be exported entirely. The return value is a dictionary containing the shader source code and all associated data. The full documentation is under sphinx. Warning: there has been an API between the patch and this commit: uniform['lamp'] and uniform['image'] now return python reference to ID block instead of ID name as before. The X3D exporter that uses this function must be adapted.
