While SCons building system was serving us really good for ages it's no longer
having much attention by the developers and started to become quite a difficult
task to maintain.
What's even worse -- there started to be quite serious divergence between SCons
and CMake which was only accumulating over the releases now. The fact that none
of the active developers are really using SCons and that our main studio is also
using CMake spotting bugs in the SCons builds became quite a difficult task and
we aren't always spotting them in time.
Meanwhile CMake became really mature building system which is available on every
platform we support and arguably it's also easier and more robust to use.
This commit includes:
- Removal of actual SCons building system
- Removal of SCons git submodule
- Removal of documentation which is stored in the sources and covers SCons
- Tweaks to the buildbot master to stop using SCons submodule
(this change requires deploying to the server)
- Tweaks to the install dependencies script to skip installing or mentioning
SCons building system
- Tweaks to various helper scripts to avoid mention of SCons folders/files
as well

non-main thread
This is really similar to what GPU module was already doing. There are number of
possible improvements still:
- Re-use allocated VAOs when requesting new ones instead of going to the trouble
of freeing VAO and then re-creating it again.
- Move VAO handling to GPU module.
Fixes T46589: OpenSubdiv crash with drivers
|
|
- Add blentranslation `BLT_*` module.
- moved & split `BLF_translation.h` into (`BLT_translation.h`, `BLT_lang.h`).
- moved `BLF_*_unifont` functions from `blf_translation.c` to new source file `blf_font_i18n.c`.
|
|
The issue was caused by the following construction:
def = env['SOMETHING']
defs.append('SOMETHING_MORE')
Since first assignment was actually referencing environment option it was totally
polluted hawing weird and wonderful side effects on all other areas of Blender.

- rename WITH_EXTERNAL_AUDASPACE to WITH_SYSTEM_AUDASPACE.
- rename C/PYAUDASPACE to AUDASPACE_C/PY
- simplifying cmake defines and includes.
- fixing include paths and enabling WITH_SYSTEM_AUDASPACE for windows.
- fixing scons building.
- other minor build system fixes.

This commit contains all the remained parts needed for initial integration of
OpenSubdiv into Blender's subdivision surface code. Includes both GPU and CPU
backends which works in the following way:
- When SubSurf modifier is the last in the modifiers stack then GPU pipeline
of OpenSubdiv is used, making viewport performance as fast as possible.
This also requires graphscard with GLSL 1.5 support. If this requirement is
not met, then no GPU pipeline is used at all.
- If SubSurf is not a last modifier or if DerivesMesh is being evaluated for
rendering then CPU limit evaluation API from OpenSubdiv is used. This only
replaces the legacy evaluation code from CCGSubSurf_legacy, but keeps CCG
structures exactly the same as they used to be for ages now.
This integration is fully covered with ifdef and not enabled by default
because there are several TODOs to be solved first:
- Face varying data interpolation is not really cleanly implemented for GPU
in OpenSubdiv 3.0. It is also not implemented for limit evaluation API.
This basically means we'll have really hard time supporting UVs.
- Limit evaluation only works with adaptivly subdivided meshes so far, which
basically means all the points of CCG are pushed to the limit. This gives
different result from old code.
- There are some serious optimizations possible on the topology refiner
creation, which would speed up initial OpenSubdiv mesh creation.
- There are some hardcoded asumptions in the GPU and DerivedMesh areas which
could be generalized.
That's something where Antony and Campbell can help, making it so the code
is structured in a way which is reusable by all planned viewport projects.
- There are also some workarounds in the dependency graph to make sure OpenGL
buffers are only freed from the main thread.
Those who'll be wanting to make experiments with this code should grab dev
branch (NOT master) from
https://github.com/Nazg-Gul/OpenSubdiv/tree/dev
There are some patches applied in there which we're working on on getting
into upstream.

Original patch by @random (D765) with some minor work done by @campbell
and me.
At this place, I'd like call out a number of people who were involved and
deserve a big "Thank you!":
* At the first place @randon who developed and submitted the patch
* The Blendercn community which helped a lot with testing - espacially
* @yuzukyo, @leon_cheung and @kjym3
* @campbellbarton, @mont29 and @sergey for their help and advises during
* review
* @ton who realized the importance of this early on and asked me for
* reviewing
We are still not finished, as this is only the first part of the
implementaion, but there's more to come!

- script execution is off by default
- if a blend file attempts to execute a script
this shows a message in the header with the action
that was suppressed (script/driver/game-autostart) and 2 buttons to either reload the file trusted, or to ignore the message.
- the file selector will always default to use the trust setting in the user preferences,
but reloading an open file will keep using the current setting (whatever was set before or set on the command-line).
- added SCons setting WITH_BF_PYTHON_SECURITY, this sets the default state for the user prefereces not to trust blend files on load.
... this option was in CMake before, but always off, now its enabled by default for SCons and CMake, and forced on in CMake for now.

Not all file formats/calls are supported yet. It will be expended.
Please from now on use BLI_fopen, BLI_* for file manipulations.
For non-windows systems BLI_fopen just calls fopen.
For Windows, the utf-8 string is translated to utf-16 string in order to call UTF version of the function.

Change OURPLATFORM from "linux<major_version>" to simple "linux".
Since new policy for linux kernel versions that major version in

rules could be used for both of linux2 and linux3 now/

- fix 10.4 compile issues
- fix some scons issues & add WITH_BF_COLLADA = False in scons darwin_config.py to allow build waiting for complete Collada Mac implementation
|
|
COLLADA code is disabled by default (it has dependencies requiring manual install).
SCons and CMake builds are supported on Windows and Linux, no Mac building yet. More on building COLLADA code: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/User:Kazanbas/Building_Collada_Branch.

Since bli_threads.h now includes pthreads directly, we need to had instructions in SConscripts everywhere for proper include path.
Frankly, I feel like this should be done in a global manner and not in a per lib fashion, but that is for another day.
This commit also fixes more missing properties
|
|
1) Remove WITH_FREETYPE2 from code, so now blender always need freetype2
2) Remove the old bmfont
3) Remove ftfont and bFTGL library
4) Implement a new BLF_draw_default function for place that still need/use
the old BMF api.
I try to update both, scons and cmake, but I only can test with make, so
hope all work fine.
MSVC is broken, but I don't have Windows, things to search and fix are
any reference to WITH_FREETYPE2, FTGL and BMFONT (take in care that
blenkernel also have a BKE_bmfont.h, this don't have anything to do with bmfont).
Always have to link/include the freetype2 library
Remove any reference to libbmfont
Remove any reference to libftfont
Remove any reference to libbftgl (or libbFTGL)
|
|
I go to start commit the new code here and then replace one
by one bmfont and ftfont, this do nothing right now, but it's
more easy keep the files here to work from the studio and my home.
I only update the Makefile and SConscript (but JesterKing a double
check never is bad), so please check the msvc and cmake files.
The new library is libblenfont.a

Drawing code for space_view3d module.
It's still not cleaned, have to check on context usage still.
Also missing is editmodes, armatures, and probably more.
Known issue: splitting to 2nd window gives bad opengl lighting.
